If you're in a situation where you can't find or borrow something as simple as a can opener, the best thing to do is avoid anything that has the potential to f_____k you up. As others have pointed out, using a knife should be the last resort. Grinding on rocks or pavement works (takes time but works!) and has almost zero chance of f___________g you up.

I had to use the rock method one time while camping because I forgot to pack a can opener. It worked very well.
