How would anyone know what extra-terrestrial lands look like? Why are they named after fake gods?

This is cool stuff, which I'm all open to, but I'd still like to know how that popular Christian & PhD JPL astrophysicist, Dr. Hugh Ross, would respond. Is he in on the hoax? If so, does he even know he's in on a hoax. (Not tagging him here, but he's easy to find.)
