The Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Philip Lowe said Australian households should reduce their spending habits or pick up additional work hours to afford their increased mortgage repayments. "If people can cut back on spending, or in some cases, find additional hours of work, that would put them back into a positive cash flow position," he said. Lowe also acknowledged that people are under "very significant stress" to find additional cash as the RBA continues to lift cash rates to an 11-year high of 4.10%. However, he remains confident that Australia will be able to reach the 2% to 3% inflation target but did not specify an exact time range for when this goal would be reached.

A Melbourne mother is demanding answers after her 12-year-old son was pulled for 350 metres by a bus in Wheelers Hill. She says the boy’s schoolbag became caught in the doors, leaving him hanging on with one arm as the bus drove off. Footage shows him lifting his legs to avoid the road before the driver eventually stopped. He escaped mostly uninjured but is now traumatised. His mum is calling for the bus company to take accountability for the incident.

The brawl began in the Pascoe Vale Road car park at around 7:20pm before spilling into the centre, where people hid in locked stores as screams echoed through the mall. Confronting scenes have unfolded in Port Melbourne, with masked youths filmed hunting down and bashing a teen in broad daylight on Monday. CCTV shows a group hanging from a car before stopping on Bay Street, where several people jumped out, one appearing to carry a sledgehammer. It is understood the group of six hooded thugs chased two young people down the street before attacking them. Police were called to Lalor Street at around 3:15pm, but the group had already fled. Investigations remain ongoing.

Police allege the group was involved in home invasions, aggravated burglaries and car thefts, and that their stolen vehicle rammed four police cars in an attempt to escape.
