On this day in 1952, Big Mama Thornton recorded the original version of "Hound Dog", years before Elvis ever touched it. The song was actually written specifically for her, and she absolutely killed the vocals. It ended up sitting at #1 on the R&B charts for 7 straight weeks.🎶

Pittsburgh's own Donnie Iris has announced his retirement at 83 years old due to ongoing health issues. If you've ever seen Donnie in concert, you know what a great performer he is. It was always a special experience seeing him on stage. As he steps away from performing to focus on his health, I'm wishing him strength, comfort, and better days ahead. Thank you, Donnie, for the memories and for being such an important part of Pittsburgh's rock and roll history. You will always be a Pittsburgh legend...🙏🤍
