The Lefty Gomez Award isn't given simply for wins or championships. It's reserved for those whose lifetime of service has left a lasting mark on the game of baseball. The ABCA is proud to announce ABCA Hall of Famer John Anderson as the 2027 recipient of the prestigious ABCA / Wilson Baseball & Softball Lefty Gomez Award. Over nearly five decades at the University of Minnesota, through his leadership with USA Baseball, and in countless ways behind the scenes, Anderson's impact has reached far beyond one program. His influence has been felt by coaches, student-athletes and the game itself at the local, national and international levels. Congratulations to Coach Anderson on one of the highest honors in baseball and a recognition that reflects a remarkable lifetime of service to our game.
