I’ve seen many say Mainoo doesn’t have the legs to play as a #10… The pivot is far more physically demanding. I truly believe Amorim’s #10 roles (specifically left) are tailor made for Kobbie. Think back to his Liverpool performances, the goal against Wolves, his FA Cup final goal. This is the area of the pitch he thrives in. Receiving between the lines; fast, small-space exchanges and cute, inventive through balls slipped to disguised runners. It means you can place a more progressive passer (Wharton, Stiller) in the pivot to accompany Ugarte, while actually having elite receivers between the lines (Mainoo and Amad).

I compared the market opportunity he represented to Dean Huijsen's move from Juventus to Bournemouth for a bemusing fee of £12.6m last summer. Arsenal recruiting Mosquera for a similar sum is remarkable business and puts him among the signings of the summer. He's been in England for a matter of weeks but is performing like a seasoned pro in the Premier League, which speaks to not only his current ability but his immense potential. Real bitter one to take as a United fan.
