Even the underwear matters at Auburn. When I toured Auburn’s facility, one detail stood out: the “dress of the day” is posted so every player knows exactly what to wear. The dress code changes every day, but the standard doesn’t. Down to the underwear, nothing gets left to chance. It’s a small detail that tells you a lot about how a program operates. ⬇️⬇️

Matt Rhule told me he moved Nebraska’s practices from the morning to the afternoon because of the demands that travel puts on players. He also said no team that practices in the morning has won a national championship, and that was something he kept in mind when making the change. Next Up with Adam Breneman x PrizePicks

John Rhys Plumlee’s day today was INSANE. He played in UCF’s 5pm home baseball game vs Memphis. Goes 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBIs. UCF wins 12-3. He then leaves the game in 7th inning, sprints out of the stadium & is escorted in golf cart to the football stadium to play in the UCF Football Spring Game at 7:30. Throws 2+ TDs. WILD. @PlumleeJohn is one of the best stories in college sports.

Texas Tech GM James Blanchard can tell within seconds who he’s negotiating with. He told me one parent once called asking for $2.5 million for their son. Blanchard was polite, ended the conversation, and never called back. He said it’s hard to blame parents because most simply don’t know how the business works. That’s why one of his first questions is always, “Am I talking to a representative or a parent?” The answer usually tells him everything he needs to know. ⬇️⬇️ @NextUpBreneman x USAT

Anthony Colandrea didn’t want to leave UNLV. He met with Dan Mullen after the bowl game, and walking away wasn’t easy. But once he entered the transfer portal, Nebraska immediately stood out. He also considered Florida State and Georgia Tech, but everything changed when he met Matt Rhule and Dana Holgorsen. Colandrea wanted to get back to the Power Four, and he knew Nebraska was the right place to do it. Next Up with Adam Breneman x PrizePicks

How North Dakota State protects its culture in the transfer portal era ⬇️

College football teams are scouting the transfer portal before players even enter it. Pat Stewart told me Nebraska had four remote scouts, each assigned two positions to evaluate before the portal opened. They focused heavily on Group of Six players, while using relationships with agents to get an idea of which Power Four players could eventually become available. That’s what roster building looks like in college football today. ⬇️⬇️ Next Up with Adam Breneman x PrizePicks

Rocco Becht didn’t plan on leaving Iowa State. But when the Cyclones hired from the outside instead of promoting from within after Matt Campbell left, everything changed. With Campbell landing at Penn State, the decision became easy. Becht looked at other schools, but Penn State was the only one that truly made sense. ⬇️ Next Up with Adam Breneman x PrizePicks

The United Football League is averaging 631,000 viewers per game this season. The NHL averaged 546,000 on national TV and the MLS averaged 120,000. Spring football has failed in America for 40 years - this feels like the first version that actually has a chance to last. The biggest reason why: The UFL became developmental football with real stakes, recognizable coaches, players people actually know and legitimate TV distribution. And in a football obsessed country, there’s real value in that. ⬇️⬇️

SMU football GM J.R. Sandlin told me that the Mustangs have an army of 40 to 45 scouts working on the personnel side. Some are volunteers, but everyone plays a role in gathering as much detailed information as possible. It’s all part of a massive recruiting operation designed to keep pushing SMU forward. ⬇️

James Franklin didn’t want the current Virginia Tech players to feel like the Penn State transfers were being handed starting jobs. Every spot has to be earned, no matter where a player came from. After what happened at Penn State, Franklin is determined to build a culture where everyone is on the same page and nothing is given ⬇️ Next Up with Adam Breneman x USAT

I sat down with new Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin & this one did not disappoint. I played for Coach Franklin, so I know him well… and watching him build a program from the ground up again has been awesome. This was NOT a surface level interview… We talked about why he took the Virginia Tech Football job, what went wrong at Penn State & what he wishes could’ve ended differently He opened up about pressure, criticism, leadership & how his definition of success has evolved. You’re going to see a different side of James Franklin in this one!! OUT NOW.!
