Another attack on Yoruba people and Yoruba culture. According to this young lady from Edo State, Yoruba people are monopolizing Nigerian culture and believe they are better than the rest of Nigeria. She thinks that when people talk about Nigerian culture, they are actually referring to Yoruba culture. This is getting out of hand. Peddling tribalism while claiming to speak against tribalism. 💔

The First Lady is absolutely correct. However, many Nigerian youths struggle to recognize and take advantage of the immense opportunities around them. People who engage in the kinds of activities she referred to are often making more money and enjoying a better quality of life than many others, sometimes by a wide margin. Akara sellers, for example, are building houses, buying cars, and sending their children to university through small but consistent businesses. That said, the challenge is not simply “laziness” in a blanket sense. It is often a mix of mindset, lack of access to guidance, weak support systems, and poor exposure to viable opportunities. Many young people are also trapped in cycles of unemployment and uncertainty. Ultimately, beyond politics, tribalism, and social media outrage, the real issue is how individuals position themselves to develop skills, recognize opportunity, and apply discipline. But that only works fully in an environment where both personal responsibility and structural opportunity meet. Na laziness and poor imagination dey trouble many of you.
