He took his son to the first day of kindergarten. 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees went to the office that day. None of them survived. Within days Lutnick cut off their paychecks to their families — before many were even confirmed dead. Years later Cantor won a $135 million settlement from American Airlines. The bulk went to Lutnick and the firm's senior partners. He is now America's Secretary of Commerce.
