According to BBC Hausa, bandits under the leadership of Kachallah Dan-Sadiya kidnapped 2 staff and 7 students (one later escaped) from Federal Poly Kauran Namoda in Zamfara. They have been in captivity for over 2 months. They extorted N10m from the first lecturer and N12m from the second. They refused to release them and demanded N150m. One of the lecturers, Williams Daddy, was killed some days ago after collecting N10m from his relatives. 6 students and 1 lecturer are still in captivity.

In 2021 after 300+ Jangebe schoolgirls abduction, Zamafara state government negotiated with the bandits for their release. The bandit leader demanded N300m but after negotiation, they received N60m. The bandits used the money to acquire more riffles. The Zamfara State governor that denied paying the ransom is the current minister of state for defence, Bello Matawalle.
