Jamie Theakston's bravery in speaking up about cancer may have saved lives - prompting one person every 16 seconds to check symptoms on our website. Today I'm in Birmingham with Wes Streeting seeing one of our cancer buses that go into communities to improve early detection. ⬇️

Since day one, the NHS has never stood still. It has continually innovated and adapted to meet the changing needs of our patients – and continues to do so. To everyone who's made such a difference to many millions of lives over the last 75 years — thank you.

On Christmas Day, NHS staff will dispatch around 20,000 ambulances, serve 100,000 Christmas dinners in hospitals, and deliver 1,500 babies, as they do every year. Thank you to the incredible NHS staff working really hard over the Christmas and New Year period.

Since 1948, the NHS has relied on amazing staff from across the world — starting with the Windrush generation. 75 years on, many descendants continue to work in the NHS. I had the pleasure of meeting Carol, a matron at Imperial NHS 💙 and a descendant of the Windrush generation. ⬇️

It was an honour to meet Gerda, who came to England on the Kindertransport in June 1938, during a visit to the Heathlands Village in Manchester. The care she now receives at the The Fed takes into account her faith and what she has lived through. #HolocaustMemorialDay

Today, I am at NHS Providers conference, announcing the rollout of a new “ping and book” service on the NHS App for breast and cervical checks next month. Replacing the cost of letters and texts with pop-ups on your phone and allowing direct booking into an appointment. 🧵⬇️
