HAPPENING NOW: Union activist and NDP leadership candidate Rob Ashton suggests we "eat the damn rich" to thunderous applause at the party's convention.

Someone asked us to track down a video of what appeared to be South Asian men shooting guns into the woods on-top of a Jeep Wrangler with a B.C. license plate. Ask and ye shall receive. Here's how we did it. A 🧵.

Vancouver, BC, Canada. The American flag stands above the rest — completely surreal given the broader geopolitical context.

I'm on my way back to court to hear more about the case involving the Drug User Liberation Front, or DULF, for short. The group's founders have been convicted on three charges each for selling cocaine, heroin and meth after David Eby's NDP government paid them $200,000 to do it.

Especially surreal for the political nerds who followed this race from beginning to end: the underdog, despite being the most inexperienced; attacked for her age, then called a racist; backstabbed by her own staffers; and then, they tried to disqualify her at the eleventh hour.

UPDAtE: I can confirm it is becoming progressively less mellow here.

When asked if there was any potential for "over cautiousness" as regards hantavirus, B.C.'s Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry responds, "I don't think we can be over cautious given the trauma we've all been through."

HAPPENING NOW: Chrystia Freeland is in the House but they're not letting her speak, as she looks dissociative and disturbed.

A group of port workers in Vancouver came out to spontaneously support and cheer on Pierre Poilievre during his presser today.

HAPPENING NOW: Someone asks BC Premier David Eby, "How would define residential school 'denialism'?" and "As a civil liberties guy, do you think this infringes on freedom of speech?" That someone is Western Standard alumni and Sitka Media's Jarryd Jäger. Great questions.

HAPPENING NOW: Full credit to this Canadian Press reporter who asks the same awkward question I would have — "How does the fed govt of Canada justify expanding the Vancouver port when mayors and police experts already say it is insufficiently monitored for criminal activity?"

HAPPENING NOW: Someone identifying himself as a local counselor hijacks the Toronto police media event on today's mass shooting at a street festival to say how "disgusting this is," just moments after Chief Frank Barredo claimed "Toronto is one of the safest cities in the world."

STUDENT: "Why do you need evidence?" MCMURTRY: "Because you can't accuse people of murder without evidence." This was such a fun day.

A woman in Vancouver was denied access to a "2SLGBTIAQ+-friendly" outdoor theatre because her hair violated the venue's "Code of Conduct Cultural Appropriation policy."

The RCMP Commissioner Michael Duheme said in Oct 2024 that "the Government of Canada has evidence" of the Indian government directing criminal activity here. And then the same man says in March 2026 to Vassy Kapelos: RCMP has "no evidence" of any such involvement. What changed?

In the absence of any suspect description related to the Toronto street festival mass shooting over the weekend, I decided to create my own suspect 'lineup' based on the Toronto Police Service's actual real-life most wanted list.

It has come to my attention that today is Day Three of the 2026 NDP leadership convention and that yesterday was Day Two. I feel terrible about the mix up given the seriousness of the event and the gravity of the moment—so I've gone back and compiled some highlights from Day One.

HAPPENING NOW: Toronto mayor Olivia Chow speaks to the media following a mass daytime shooting at a Latino street festival, telling them "I am beyond words in terms of how disturbed I am."

Winnipeg Police: "One of our senior officers is a psychopathic serial criminal who—while maybe high on coke and mushrooms—sold drugs, extorted people and took grotesque pictures with dead women in their underwear. But before we get to that, let's do a dozen land acknowledgments."

HAPPENING NOW: The "Vancouver port expansion" presser begins with Liberal MP Park Bains doing an indigenous land acknowledgment immediately before misidentifying his Liberal MP colleague Steven MacKinnon's province of origin.

BREAKING: Trudeau Housing Minister Sean Fraser also resigns, making him the second cabinet minister to resign on the Monday morning before the Fall Economic Update. When asked why he's resigning, Fraser cites a total lack of public support - even amongst his own family, he says

HAPPENING NOW: After four years childishly belittling the richest and most influential person in the world and the next President-Elect of the United States in Question Period, it's finally occurring to a rattled looking Freeland and Joly that this probably wasn't a good idea.

Justin Trudeau is so unhinged it's not funny anymore.

HAPPENING NOW: Jagmeet Singh calls for "sanctions on Indian diplomats" and then exits the room to the sound of reporters laughing at him. One yells "that's not how it works" as her colleagues continue mocking Singh for another disastrous press conference.
