It is a huge embarrassment that Trump has effectively switched sides in the Russo-Ukraine war, joining Russia. The U.S. has aligned itself not with our allies in NATO, but with the longstanding, principal threat to NATO: Moscow. It's unthinkable that an American president would do this.

Putin scored a major victory over the U.S., NATO, and Ukraine this week, which is why Putin did not negotiate with Biden or Zelensky. He waited to negotiate with Trump because he believed the Kremlin would get more out of a Trump deal. And he was absolutely right.

Trump has said many times that he thinks if he has a good relationship with a foreign head of state then the U.S. has good relations with that country. Personal relationships are important, but when dealing with someone cold-blooded as Putin, one must be more discerning.

Trump has made it clear. This is a regime change mission. But you don't achieve regime change by replacing Khamenei with another ayatollah. In order for regime change to happen, the entire structure of the ayatollahs and the Revolutionary Guard must be swept away.

It’s a mistake to walk away from our fight in Iran. The has U.S. battered the Iranian military complex, it will take them years to rebuild. We cannot reward the Iranians with the political win of hegemony over the Strait of Hormuz just because we don’t know what our goals are.
