Today, the AMA joined the Vaccine Integrity Project in announcing the completion of an independent, vaccine evidence review process for the 2026–27 respiratory virus season. The Vaccine Integrity Project conducted a thorough scientific review of RSV, flu, and COVID-19 vaccines — examining the risks and benefits. The evidence showed that immunizations against these respiratory viruses continue to provide meaningful protection against severe illness, hospitalization and death, with no new safety concerns in comparative studies with currently recommended immunizations. The evidence reviews helped inform new 2026–27 recommendations released by leading medical societies. The AMA also created new resources to help clinicians and patients put the latest evidence and recommendations into practice. J-1 visa delays could prevent international medical graduates (IMGs) from starting their training this July, leaving hospitals short-staffed and patients at risk. As Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, Willie Underwood III, MD, MSc, MPH, states: IMGs aren’t taking jobs; they’re filling critical gaps in communities like Flint, MI, and across rural America.
