Tomorrow the Court of Appeal rules on the ban of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. In February, the High Court ruled the ban unlawful. The Government decided to appeal this decision and police have continued to arrest people who have peacefully opposed the ban. Amnesty International has intervened in this case because the Palestine Action ban was a grave misuse by the government of sweeping counter terror powers.

This is what terrorism now looks like in the UK. Yesterday, the Court of Appeal accepted the Government's appeal and ruled that the Home Secretary's proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation was lawful. Amnesty International is deeply disappointed by this decision. Treating direct action as terrorism is a dangerous misuse of counter-terrorism powers and has led to thousands of arrests of entirely peaceful protesters - something that will long be remembered as a deeply shameful chapter in our history. The fight is far from over. We will continue to challenge the government's efforts to crack down on our right to protest and hold power to account.

The documentary that the BBC refused to air - Gaza: Doctors Under Attack - won a Bafta last night. The documentary shows the targeting, detainment and torture of medics in Gaza by Israeli authorities. The decimation of Gaza’s healthcare system including the detention of healthcare workers is central to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. Amnesty awarded Gaza: Doctors Under Attack at the Amnesty Media Awards last week. The work of everyone involved in making this documentary and fighting for it to be broadcast shows the importance of journalists willing to speak truth to power. #Bafta #Baftas

Everyone should watch this speech. "The irony of accepting an award for covering a genocide in the very country that enables that genocide should not be lost." AJ Faultlines documentary, Kids Under Fire, won "Outstanding War or Violence Conflict Coverage" at the 2026 News #Emmys in New York City yesterday. Josh Rushing dedicated the award to journalists killed by Israeli forces.

Today's ruling by the Court of Appeal is deeply disappointing. This case remains about much more than one group. What’s important for all of us to understand is that proscription is one of the strongest powers the government has. Treating protest as terrorism leaves the door wide open for governments to suppress other protest movements in the future. We have long said that the banning of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation is a grave misuse of counter-terrorism powers with serious consequences for human rights. It is a huge overreach to treat direct action protest as terrorism. Amnesty will continue to defend the freedoms that allow people to speak out and hold the powerful to account.

Thank you Pep Guardiola for using your platform. Governments killing, displacing and dehumanising millions across the world want to make us think it's normal. But Guardiola is right. We can't look away. And we cannot accept it. What is being asked of us right now is to fight for justice, for every single human. You're not alone. Let's do it together. 🕯️ PepTeam

On 27 December 2024, the Israeli military raided Kamal Adwan hospital in Mashrou’ Beit Lahiya and arbitrarily detained its director, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, along with other medical staff and patients. On 28 April 2026, an Israeli court, once again, extended Dr. Abu Safiya’s detention under the Unlawful Combatant Law without filing any charges against him. The destruction of Gaza’s health sector is a key tactic in Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people. Join us to demand the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and all detained health workers now. Take action: Some of the tools currently used by Israel’s military as they commit genocide have been provided by US software company Palantir. Since 2023 Palantir has had a £330 million contract with NHS England. Because of its contribution to human rights abuses, including the ongoing genocide, our message is clear: No Palantir in our NHS.

Breaking: Today's mass arrests of peaceful protesters in Trafalgar Square under UK terrorism law are yet another blow to civil liberties in this country - and made all the more outrageous by the Metropolitan Police's own U-turn. The High Court ruled in February that the proscription of Palestine Action was unlawful. The Met rightly said it would stop making arrests. It has now gone back to its old, failed policy - mass arrests of people holding pieces of card, including today an elderly woman with walking sticks. This is not policing. This is the state criminalising dissent. Take action now with thousands of other Amnesty International supporters and sign the petition to end all prosecutions against these peaceful protesters.

🚨BREAKING: Hundreds arrested in Parliament Square for peaceful protest against ban of Palestine Action When the Government is arresting people under terrorism laws for sitting peacefully in protest, something is going very wrong here in the UK. Peaceful protest is a fundamental right. People are understandably outraged by the ongoing genocide being committed in Gaza and are entitled under international human rights law to express their horror. Amnesty has long criticised UK terrorism law for being excessively broad, vaguely worded and a threat to freedom of expression. Today's response only further demonstrates that our concerns were justified. Any restriction on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly must be lawful, necessary and proportionate to achieving a legitimate aim. Criminalising speech in this context is only permitted when it incites violence or advocates hatred. Expressing support for Palestine Action does not, in itself, meet this threshold.

WARNING: This film contains scenes some viewers may find disturbing. A few weeks ago Keir Starmer said he doesn’t think Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. But we investigated and now have the evidence - this is genocide. Watch this 2 minute video to understand how we arrived at this conclusion. Read the full report here: #EndGazaGenocide

Content warning: distressing scenes of violence Tonight Amnesty have awarded Channel 4 News Channel 4 News Best Broadcast Feature at the Amnesty Media Awards 2026 for this powerful report. This feature follows the story of Saeed al-Amour, a Palestinian farmer, whose leg was amputated after being shot by illegal settlers while he tended to his olive groves in the occupied West Bank’s Masafer Yatta. Just four days ago, Saeed was arrested and detained by Israeli forces after another confrontation with settlers on his land. This is what apartheid looks like. Saeed’s story is the story of millions of Palestinians across the occupied West Bank: state-backed settler attacks, home demolitions, and a legal system that penalises Palestinians while shielding Israeli settlers from accountability. Israel is rapidly expanding settlements across the occupied West Bank. But it is going underreported. It is vital that journalists continue to expose human rights abuses.
