What does tanning have to do with penile sensitivity? I recently interviewed Randy Tymkin, the inventor of ManHood, and his story is a great example of why I love learning about innovative products in men's sexual health. I first learned about ManHood from a patient who came to see me because he was having difficulty reaching orgasm. When I asked what he'd tried, he mentioned a product called ManHood—a soft sleeve worn over the head of the penis to protect it from friction and irritation. He told me he'd noticed an improvement in sensitivity while using it. I was intrigued. I started recommending it to select patients and eventually connected with Randy to learn more about the product and the story behind it. Here's the interesting part: Randy originally developed ManHood because he wanted to protect his genitals while tanning. What started as a practical solution to a personal problem evolved into a product designed to serve as a nonsurgical foreskin substitute, particularly for circumcised men. The idea is that reducing daily friction against clothing may help protect the sensitive tissue of the penile glans and potentially improve comfort and perceived sensitivity. Is there robust clinical evidence demonstrating that ManHood improves penile sensitivity or orgasm? Not yet. But I think there's value in exploring low-risk, noninvasive options, especially when patients are the ones introducing us to products that have helped them. One of the things I love most about practicing medicine is that I'm constantly learning from my patients. Sometimes they introduce me to something I might never have discovered otherwise. In this clip, Randy shares the origin story of ManHood and how a simple idea evolved into a product that's been around for more than 30 years. Have you heard of ManHood?
