Only 3 hundred of these hand built a year This is a rarity. 20 k is a steal. Thanks for the additional photos. They reveal quite a bit. What I can tell from these images Engine This truck has a Caterpillar 3406B engine. Based on the visible valve covers and intake layout, it appears to be a mechanical 3406B, one of the most desirable CAT engines ever built. Depending on the injectors and pump settings, these were commonly rated from 350 to 425 HP. Transmission I can’t identify the transmission from these photos alone, but many 1987 Marmons with a 3406B were equipped with: Fuller RT/RTO-14613 (13-speed) Fuller RT/RTO-14918 (18-speed) Interior The dash appears to be original. It will need a thorough cleaning and likely some restoration, but I don’t see obvious evidence of severe fire or collision damage. The headliner is sagging, which is common for trucks of this age. The seat has already been replaced at some point. Overall condition From what I can see: Positives Straight hood and grille Original Marmon emblems Original-style dash CAT 3406B Complete truck Doesn’t appear to have been heavily modified Needs attention Extensive cleaning Wiring inspection Likely fuel system work from sitting Air system inspection Tires (likely aged out) Interior restoration Rarity If this truly is a 1987 Marmon with a Caterpillar 3406B, it is a very uncommon truck today. While there aren’t official production records by year and engine combination, it’s reasonable to say: Total Marmon production in the late 1980s was only a few hundred trucks per year. Only a portion of those were built with the CAT 3406B. The number of surviving, restorable examples is likely well under 100, though no official registry exists to confirm an exact count.
