The view from the cupola is absolutely breathtaking. It wasn't added to the Space Station until 2010 and I finally got to experience it on my third spaceflight. The 360 degree view of Earth is almost beyond words. It's like a giant live painting that is constantly changing. Definitely the best view in town!

6 seconds before the Shuttle's liftoff, the three main engines would ignite. The engines were so powerful that they caused the vehicle to tilt despite being attached to solid rocket boosters. You could actually feel yourself tilting inside the vehicle and as soon as it rocked back to vertical, you were at zero. The solid rocket boosters and hold-down pyros ignited into what was basically a shaped charge, and bam! There was no question you were going somewhere fast!
