6 seconds before the Shuttle's liftoff, the three main engines would ignite. The engines were so powerful that they caused the vehicle to tilt despite being attached to solid rocket boosters. You could actually feel yourself tilting inside the vehicle and as soon as it rocked back to vertical, you were at zero. The solid rocket boosters and hold-down pyros ignited into what was basically a shaped charge, and bam! There was no question you were going somewhere fast!

I'm sometimes asked what my superpower is. And I think the answer might surprise people. It's not being an astronaut, or a biochemist - it's being a team builder. I learned the importance of building strong teams at a very young age, a skill that has served me well ever since.

The view from the International Space Station is breathtaking—but what makes it truly mesmerizing is how it constantly evolves. The ISS circles Earth roughly every 90 minutes, completing about 16 orbits per day. In that short time, our planet rotates eastward beneath the Station, shifting its ground track westward with each pass, giving us view cycles through different continents, oceans, cities, and weather patterns. It's a beautiful constantly changing mosaic of our planet!
