Black Truck Driver to Sue After NC Cop Assaults him at Courthouse NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, NC - Attorneys for Don D. Long II, the 39 year-old Black man who suffered permanent eye damage and vision impairment after being needlessly assaulted by a deputy with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, released video of the assault where Deputy Gregory Colson sprayed pepper spray directly to his eyes at close range after Long simply inquired whether he could enter a courtroom at the Northampton County Courthouse. In addition to releasing the videos, Long’s attorneys have filed notice with Sheriff Jack Smith, Northampton County Manager Julian Phillips and other county officials that they intend to file a lawsuit over the unlawful use of force.

BREAKING: Benjy Taylor, head men’s basketball coach at Tuskegee University, has retained legal counsel after being detained following the game against Morehouse College. National civil rights attorney Harry Daniels, Gerald Griggs, and Gregory Williams have been hired to represent Coach Taylor as serious questions continue to emerge about the circumstances surrounding his detention. When a college coach — particularly at an HBCU — can be handcuffed after a basketball game without clear justification, the public deserves answers. Accountability, transparency, and respect for civil rights are not optional. This matter will be addressed through the proper legal channels. We will continue to closely monitor developments.

A Fulton County high school student tased in a now-viral video has hired national civil rights attorney Harry Daniels, according to a press release. Lanier Johnson-Hunt, 18, spoke to Atlanta Media following the incident Thursday. He said it all started because of a new school bus driver who thought he didn’t belong on the bus. When he refused to get off the bus, he said the school resource officer tased him multiple times.

Juneteenth has deep roots in Limestone County, Texas. In the years after 1865, formerly enslaved people began gathering at Comanche Crossing near Mexia to celebrate freedom—what became one of the earliest and largest Juneteenth celebrations in the country. The community later bought the land and renamed it Booker T. Washington Park, where celebrations have continued for over 150 years. It’s also where the term “Juneteenth” was first used.
