Authorities say a large landslide either caused the pipeline to fail — or was triggered by the rupture itself — as soil shifted beneath the infrastructure. Witnesses described off-camera a deafening roar coming from the hillside as natural gas escaped under extreme pressure, creating a scene that could be heard from miles away. Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department immediately established a safety perimeter and ordered a shelter-in-place for nearby residents, including homes surrounding Northlake Hills Elementary, due to the risk of ignition and hazardous air conditions. Crews are working to secure the area while utility officials attempt to isolate and shut down the damaged gas line. No injuries were reported as of early evening, but officials warned the situation remains active and dangerous, urging residents to avoid the area and follow all emergency instructions. A mountain lion cub believed to be injured or confused was found alive early this morning in a residential neighborhood in Castaic, prompting a response from law enforcement. The cub was spotted shortly before 1 a.m. lying in the middle of Hillcrest Parkway, east of Olympic Street, near several homes. A 911 caller reported seeing a total of three mountain lions roaming the area before officers arrived. Units from CHP Newhall located the young mountain lion snoozing in the roadway. Authorities say the cub appeared calm as officers monitored the scene. Just before 2:30 a.m., as officers attempted to approach, the cub suddenly fled the street and ran into a nearby backyard.

BREAKING: A motorcyclist was shot multiple times by masked gunmen overnight in the Saugus area of Santa Clarita, prompting a large law enforcement investigation and the closure of portions of Bouquet Canyon Road. The shooting was reported at approximately p.m. along southbound Bouquet Canyon Road between Haskell Canyon Road and Seco Canyon Road. According to initial reports, the victim was riding a motorcycle when he was targeted by multiple suspects. Witness information indicated at least one of the gunmen was wearing a ski mask. First responders located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local trauma center in unknown condition. Investigators recovered shell casings scattered along more than a quarter-mile stretch of Bouquet Canyon Road. Additional evidence was located in a parking lot in the 26800 block of Bouquet Canyon Road near Seco Canyon Road, where investigators continued processing the scene for several hours. No arrests have been made, and the suspects remain outstanding. The motive for the shooting has not been released, and detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
