Today, I was invited to Umm al-Khair to take part in the commemoration marking one year since the killing of peace activist Awdah Hathaleen. I was also given one of the greatest honors of my life: inaugurating the library established in his name and memory. If Awdah were alive, I’m sure he would still be standing with his people here in Umm al-Khair, with patience and infinite hope. He would probably be holding his three little children in his arms. He would still be smiling, and we would probably be dancing with him, even though the occupation tried to take that away from us. If Awdah were alive, this dark world would hold a little more light. But his light endures. He was, and always will be, a light for his family, for his community, and for our people, for the Palestinian people.

אתמול, בזמן שהמתנחלים המחבלים יצאו לטיול רצח בגדה, השתתפתי בהלווייתו של חיים יבין. בזמן שהקשבתי להספדים ולתפילות, חשבתי שרוב האנשים יזכרו אותו כמי שעמד מול המצלמה, ברגעי המהפך ובאינספור רגעים של שמחה ועצב. אבל אני אזכור אותו דווקא בזכות מה שעשה מאחורי המצלמה. ב״ארץ המתנחלים״ תיעד חיים יבין, בעומק וברגישות, את פשעי הכיבוש ואת העוולות שהוא מחולל. זה היה לפני יותר מעשרים שנה. מאז, המציאות רק הידרדרה. הכתובת הייתה על הקיר כל הזמן. פשוט לא רוצים לראות אותה. יהי זכרו ברוך.

מה שהיה אתמול בשטחים היה ״ליל האש״. מתנחלים ביצעו פוגרום רחב שנמשך למעלה משש שעות, פגעו ביותר מ-14 כפרים, תקפו עשרות פלסטינים, ואיש לא עצר אותם. אם הצבא היה רוצה לעצור את טרור המתנחלים, הוא היה יכול לעשות זאת בתוך ימים ספורים. מה שמתרחש ברחבי הגדה המערבית אינו טעות, זו מדיניות של טרור ושל טיהור אתני, בעידוד הממשלה ובחסות הצבא.

After 70 Knesset members signed the petition to begin the impeachment procedures, today, the House Committee took the second step to disqualify and remove me from the Knesset. My message to the fascists was clear: I am proud of my positions. I will not back down. I will not apologize. My proposal is for a Basic Law to recognize the State of Palestine in the Knesset. 146 countries have already recognized it (88% of the world’s nations). The Knesset must recognize the State of Palestine. Only then will the conflict end, and we will establish peace. I support a Palestinian state because I am human, because I am Palestinian, because I am a citizen of Israel, and also because I am an Arab citizen within the state.

Listen carefully to Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s Minister of Finance, when he talks about the Palestinian citizens of Israel, because he is using exactly the same propaganda that the Nazis used to portray Jews in Germany in the 1930s. Smotrich, a staunch believer in racial supremacy, repeats the exact same terms and ideas. For example, Julius Streicher, founder of the Nazi Party newspaper Der Stürmer, wrote: “The Jew does not earn his money through honest work, like a farmer or a laborer, but lives off the labor of others. He lives off the sweat of people who work for him.” Streicher was convicted of crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg Trials and executed at the end of WWII.
