BSF RESCUES 10 BANGLADESHI NATIONALS FROM DROWNING IN RIVER GANGA In a swift and courageous rescue operation, alert troops of 71 Battalion BSF, Malda Sector, saved the lives of 10 Bangladeshi nationals, including three children, three women and four men, after their boat capsized in the strong currents of the River Ganga. Among those rescued was a 30-day-old infant in critical condition, who was provided immediate first aid and rushed to the nearest government hospital. The infant is now reported to be stable and in normal condition. The incident occurred on the evening of 12 September 2026, when BSF personnel deployed near Border out Post Khandua noticed several persons struggling in the strong river current and at risk of drowning. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the troops immediately launched a rescue operation and rushed to the spot in a speed boat. After sustained and determined rescue efforts, BSF personnel successfully rescued all 10 persons from the river and brought them to safety. The rescued persons told BSF that they are residents of Joharpur village, Bangladesh, and were travelling from Chapai Nawabganj to Joharpur. While crossing the Padma (Ganga) River, their boat suddenly capsized, throwing all the occupants into the river. Owing to the strong current, they were swept towards the Indian side. BSF safely handed over all 10 Bangladeshi nationals to the troops of 53 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after completion of all necessary formalities.

04-05 Sept 26, Indore DG BSF Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, visited the Central School of Weapon & Tactics (CSWT) BSF, Indore and reviewed the various courses and professional development activities at the premier institution of the Force. He was briefed on specialised courses aimed at enhancing professional competence, weapon proficiency and operational preparedness and visited the Arms Museum, showcasing the rich legacy and evolution of weapons and tactics. At the Reoti BSF Shooting & Firing Range, DG BSF visited the extensive plantation site representing the BSF’s commitment to environmental conservation. He interacted with the BSF Shooting Team, congratulated them on their recent achievements on national and international arena of this martial sport. DG encouraged them to maintain the high standards of dedication, discipline and sporting excellence. At the firing range, the BSF training team demonstrated the penetration capabilities of different small arms, highlighting weapon proficiency and technical expertise. The visit culminated with a Prahari Sammelan, where DG BSF exhorted all personnel to pursue excellence relentlessly, uphold the highest standards of training and remain prepared to meet evolving operational challenges with professionalism and determination.

10-11 September 2026 DG BSF Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, visited Meghalaya Frontier and reviewed the operational preparedness, border domination and management measures along the International Border. He chaired a Commanders’ Conference with DIsG and Commandants in the presence of IG Meghalaya Frontier, focusing on surveillance, security measures and operational readiness, and emphasised sustained vigilance. He visited the forward areas of Jowai Sector, where field commanders briefed him on the prevailing security situation and border management arrangements. During the Prahari Sammelan, DG BSF interacted with troops and appreciated their dedication and commitment to safeguarding the International Border, particularly while performing duties in adverse weather conditions and challenging geographical terrain. He exhorted all ranks to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and devotion to duty. Reiterating the commitment of the Force and the Government towards the welfare of its personnel, he apprised the troops of various ongoing initiatives being undertaken for their welfare and well-being. During the visit, the DG BSF called on the Honourable Governor of Meghalaya and apprised him of the measures undertaken by BSF in Meghalaya for effective border domination. DG BSF also called on the DGP, Meghalaya Police and held discussions on strengthening inter-agency coordination and synergy for effective border domination and robust border management.

80th Independence Day Celebrations at JCP Attari Parade Arena The 80th Independence Day celebrations at Attari, Amritsar, were held with great fervour and patriotic spirit, with DG BSF Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, as the Chief Guest. The celebrations commenced with the inauguration of a giant LED screen displaying the image of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, adding a solemn and inspiring dimension to the occasion. A vibrant tapestry of India’s diversity and unity unfolded through cultural programmes representing different regions of the country. The performances beautifully showcased India’s rich cultural heritage and the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. Nearly 60,000 spectators from different parts of the country filled the JCP stadium and the campus, transforming the venue into a sea of patriotism, enthusiasm and national pride. BSF personnel from various training institutions showcased their exceptional skills through special sporting events and performances, reflecting their discipline, determination and physical prowess. The BSF Motorcycle Daredevil Team Janbaz and Seema Bhavani and Canine Squad presented a meticulously orchestrated display of precision, discipline and fearless skill, leaving the audience spellbound. 11-14 July 2026 South Bengal Frontier BSF, West Bengal DG BSF Sh Praveen Kumar, IPS visited coastal areas along the Indo-Bangladesh boundary in the deep Sundarban Delta and adjacent areas. He reviewed operational preparedness the border security grid & ongoing fencing works. DG held public outreach meetings with local residents and government officials.
