Contrary to CSIS Canada's 2024 Public Report, which stated “non-violent advocacy for an independent state of Khalistan is not considered extremism," Conservative Party's Melissa Lantsman & Shuv Majumdar, both equated Sikh political advocacy for Khalistan as "terror" in recent speeches. Melissa Lantsman, when identifying current terrorist threats to Canada said, "Elements of Khalistani terror who terrorize communities and people in their neighbourhoods in this country.” She did not allude to what "Khalistani terror" has recently occurred in Canadian neighbourhoods. There has been, however, Indian government-orchestrated criminal gangs committing homicides, arsons, and shootings in Canadian neighbourhoods, targeting Sikhs, as part of a broader campaign of transnational repression. Shuvaloy Majumdar called out terror groups in Canada and said, “To never back down, to never surrender, and to never be afraid to name them, whether they are Hamas or Hezbollah or Khalistan or anything else.” Khalistan, unlike Hamas or Hezbollah, is not an organization or group, but a name given to the long-standing principles of Sikh self-determination. Baaz reached out to the CPC asking if these recent comments are official party positions. We did not receive a response in time for this post. Sikh organizations had also reached out to the CPC, asking for clarification on these recent comments, but did not hear back.

UPDATE | Haryana Police have crossed into Punjab to attack farmers, including shooting at a poster of the Chaar Sahibzaade, stomping on a Nishan Sahib, and defacing a portrait of Mata Gujri Ji, while also chanting the Hindu Nationalist slogan of "Jai Shri Ram," eye witnesses share. Farmers report that police have threatened to also kidnap the sisters and daughters of Punjab's protestors to marry them off. Police have been joined by suspicious individuals in civilian clothing that are also equipped with police weapons. Haryana Police have also kidnapped and abused elderly farmers in Punjab, crossing the border to break legs and carry farmers off in jute bags, farm leaders and witnesses share. This comes at the same time one farmer was shot and killed by the police. Farm unions are calling on Punjab's government to do more to stop cross border aggression. The farmers are holding at the borders between Punjab and Haryana, on their way to demonstrate in Delhi. The Haryana government is under BJP control, and has placed barriers to stop protestors and unleashed police brutality to attack farmers. #FarmersProtest2024

BREAKING | Hundreds of international students and supporters are demonstrating in Mississauga today. They are protesting deportation orders levelled against students that were unknowing victims of bogus acceptance letters from their immigration consultant in India. A Conservative Party motion, at the federal government's immigration committee, to temporarily suspend the deportations until claims are fully investigated was delayed by the committee in a 6-5 vote. Liberal Party and NDP MPs on the committee stopped the Conservative motion, causing even greater uproar from international students and activists alike. Full story to come.

An altercation between Peel Regional Police & pro-India Hindu Nationalist protestors occurred due to an attempt to disarm a violent individual, PRP shares in a body camera video from Nov 3. "Following an investigation, it was determined that the officer depicted in the video was attempting to disarm an individual who refused to surrender their weapon and became confrontational, and accordingly acted within the lawful execution of his duties," PRP shares in a statement. Pro-India disinfo at the time suggested that the altercation between officers and Hindu Nationalist protestors was arbitrary and unprovoked. They shared videos that began mid-incident, removing any context and pretending to be victims.

Sikh bodies are calling on the Canadian government to: 1. Maximize transparency around Indian transnational repression. 2. Resume the study into Indian electoral interference and criminal activity. 3. Establish a public inquiry into the 2023 assassination of Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The call comes as Carney's trip to India has been met with ongoing controversy, including conflicting statements from government officials on India's ongoing transnational repression and state sponsored terrorism in Canada.

Organizers share that ~50,000 voters participated in the Khalistan Referendum in Ottawa today. The non-binding referendum has taken place across the diaspora, attracting hundreds of thousands. India has called the democratic process an act of terror, but has failed in convincing western governments to stop the votes from happening.
