I don't necessarily hate the more anime-fied VFX heavy modern Kamen Rider fights but man seeing shit like My-Th casually pulling off a kata guruma/fireman carry throw to a MoTW almost always feels way more satisfying to me haha

Just now realized that Kamen Rider Kabuto regularly did "time in a bottle" sequences, on weekly episodes, 8 years before Quicksilver first did it

been thinking of what movies out there recreate the feeling of a fighting game onscreen and I settled on a niche pick: Fist of The Condor Not without its flaws, but the several 1v1 bouts against colourful villains are excellent, and Zaror is a physical demon

Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (2014) I'm not sure if Kenji Tanigaki feels the same way but the final fight of The Furious to me feels like it's iterating on what he did for this final fight, an all-out brawl between multiple combatants at once

now that I've actually *seen* The Furious, I don't think it's talked about enough what an insane thing Brian Le has achieved here self taught martial artists starting on YouTube then becoming a standout character in one of the best action films of the decade is a crazy pipeline

This is why it's important to have an actual, honest to god, well realized civilian side cast in your superhero shows I love Ultraman Teo so much

Kamen Rider Gavv Ep 25 features another fantastic extreme close-quarters fight, this time with Valen getting in on the action love how they maximize the action potential of such a small space

Kamen Rider Gavv Ep 11 has a brilliant close quarters fight; I *love* the Hong Kong flavour of the choreography, constant tripping & manuevering around tight environments It's rare to see this level of intricate spatial awareness in tokusatsu fights so this was a pure delight

I love this documentary so much. Refreshingly free of embellishment, just mostly straight B-roll showing a clear-cut BTS look at how things work. As someone studying Kensuke Sonomura's action style this was hugely fascinating to get insight into this working method
