🤔 All this negative press for Moana Live Action reeks of disingenuous motives. Yes, there's many flaws with the movie, but that's the case with most of them yet no one is complaining about TANGLED being made? Even in animation it's getting crazy, The music in FROZEN 2 wasn't great yet it wasn't hit with the negative wave MOANA 2 got. The Lion King and Lilo and Stitch live actions which both made over a $billion had tons of negative press yet Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, nor Cruella received the same response ( except when it dealt with the diverse actors in Cruella) We don’t even need to get into the immense amounts of racism Halle Bailey and and Rachel Zegler received for THE LITTLE MERMAID and SNOW WHITE. ALADDIN and JUNGLE BOOK are the only diverse live actions that weren't received with negative press and i'm starting to think it's only because they came out before the so-called culture wars or more accurately - when minorities started fighting for representation in media. Yes I’m disappointed more people didn’t show up for ELIO, yes I’m angry that Disney didn’t promote more, and yes I’m pissed people are not supporting original animation. But I still think there’s some wins here. ELIO has a 80%+ RT score and a 91% audience score, and Elemental got a 73% RT score and a 93% audience score proving that Pixar’s new originals do not have a quality issue. I understand Pixar being pissed that Soul, Luca and Turning Red weren’t pushed back but instead sent to streaming, but those films were massive on Disney Plus and created a new generation of Pixar fans. The media narrative around Pixar hating streaming has caused a lot of fans and the public alike to also look at those films differently. To fix this problem there needs to be a Huge celebration of all the new Pixar Originals from the pandemic and the upcoming ones. Bob Iger and Pete Docter need to go on Good Morning America and say THEY ARE PROUD OF ALL THE NEW PIXAR ORIGINALS AND KNOW MATTER THE BOX OFFICE THEY ARE 100% COMMITTED TO PIXAR’S ORIGINAL THEATRICAL ANIMATIONS. When people see that you’re committed to something they start to take it seriously as well. It will take time to fix but it can be done and there next Upcoming Films HOPPERS and GATTO will succeed while also getting more people interested in the other new originals.
