Here’s a back angle of the same play. This is a clean play IMO. I see some mild contact here, but no tackle “from behind” is performed which has been alluded to by some. Jakob is not a dirty player and has never proven to be. Kuithe plants with his left leg at the top of the route and you see a slight buckling inward of the left knee (valgus force which is typical in ACL tears.) This is normal contact with a TE/DB at the top of a route. Jakob disengages with his body after the initial contact. It appears to be a left knee injury. Possibly an ACL tear with some collateral damage based off the mechanism. Kuithe begins to hobble after the plant and eventually falls to the turf. Kuithe, in 2022 suffered an ACL injury and meniscus tear to his right knee. Data shows that once you’ve had an ACL Injury, there is a higher risk of injuring your opposite knee than your reconstructed knee. Furthermore, there is increasing data supporting the elevated risk of ACL injuries correlated to turf as well as style and type of cleats. My heart goes out to Kuithe.

My mom is an alum of Dixie State and was a Rebellette. She is also a graduate of BYU and met my father in Provo. Rob Wright only shoots four free throws. Guy drives every time. And Sharp shoots 10 -- and I'm not saying the officials were, like, oh, we're going to give Houston calls and not BYU. I'm not suggesting that in any form or fashion. I thought they flat-out missed calls, bottom line. And that led to some turnovers, led to some frustration. And so that's disappointing. Kevin Young on if there is an advantage for BYU getting a fresh opponent in the NCAA Tournament after 10 straight weeks of Big 12 play, especially from an NBA-style perspective: “Yeah, it's funny. Like we were here, I think we were here, Big 12 Media Day, you were the emcee for that too. So we had it in this building, and it was interesting, at the coaches panel, just the amount of respect that all the coaches in this league have for this league. I think those that follow our league closely understand every single night feels like Game 7 in the NBA playoff series, the physicality, the talent, the coaching. It's all at an extremely high level. So I really feel fortunate to be in this league because I do think it prepares you literally for anything in the country relative, and to your point, you're going to play a good team in any game in the NCAA Tournament. But, yes, I think this league prepares you because there's different styles and so forth. And you know, I don't know if this necessarily is a Big 12 specific thing, but the tournament's so interesting because you're just not as familiar, right, with the opponent, right? So getting out of the Big 12 and being able to go, you know, see some fresh faces and things like that will be good. But I think to your actual question, what prepares you most, is just the gauntlet of the Big 12. And I think when you can get through that and not sink, I think that in and of itself gives teams and coaches a lot of confidence heading into the tournament.”

Our hearts are still broken over losing our Jake Shoff, but we had the opportunity to celebrate his life yesterday and it was everything we had hoped for. Jake was so many things….. being a BYU Basketball player and fan was only a small portion of his life, but man was he passionate and competitive about… so we sang his favorite song yesterday at the burial. I know Jake is Rising and Shouting for his Cougars on the other side tonight. Let’s get the dub for the Jake Shoff tonight!
