Today in 1977, The Beach Boys Love You album was released. Originally planned as Brian Loves You, Brian wrote and played nearly every instrument on the record, including keyboards, synthesizers, and drums. What’s your favorite track?

March 8, 1965 saw the release of The Beach Boys Today! album. It signaled a departure from the band’s previous work with its orchestral sound and Brian’s arrangements, incorporating timpani, harpischord, vibraphone and French horn. Brian was just twenty-two years-old.

Today in 1968, The Beach Boys released their fourteenth studio album, Friends. Recorded at Brian’s home, he album is characterized by its calm and peaceful atmosphere. Brian has at times called it his favorite Beach Boys album. What’s your favorite track?

This week in 1966, The Beach Boys released “Sloop John B,” the second single from Pet Sounds. It peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Singles Chart and became one the ‘Boys most beloved tracks. Here’s Brian talking about it.

Unreleased harmonies recorded for Brian’s 1988 solo debut album, Brian Wilson, released July 12, 1988. “It was my first official solo album, even though Pet Sounds came together like a solo record."

Brian talks about “California Saga/California” by Al Jardine . Al: "Brian came in and said, 'Give me a microphone.' He walked straight in. I hadn't seen him for a month. He walked up to the microphone and started singing, 'I'm on my way to sunny Californ-i-a.'"

“There’s a beautiful ballad called ‘The Night Was So Young.’ We sang great harmonies on that.” Here’s Brian at home in 2000 playing a part of the 1977 Beach Boys’ classic.
