This is exactly why Apple doesn’t do live launch events. IShowSpeed was livestreaming with Apple CEO John Ternus and wanted to show the new iPhone Duo to his audience. Speed first tried taking a selfie using the under display camera, but as soon as he attempted to take the photo, Ternus took the phone and switched to the external main camera so the photo would come out better. Then came the biggest software glitch. Ternus took a photo and tried to drag and transfer it. It didn’t work. He tried again. Still nothing. And there was no error message or clear indication of what had gone wrong. The failed transfer seemingly went unnoticed, and they simply moved on. Later, Speed again tried using the under display camera for a selfie and once again Ternus took the phone, switched it and flipped to the main cameras for the selfie. Even Ternus hands were shaking during these moments. But that wasn’t the end... Earlier in the livestream, while Speed was being shown the phone by Apple staff: • Zooming into the Netflix video didn't properly go full screen • Pause and playback behaved inconsistently • Took time to rotate • Changing previews showed visible delays All of this happened during an unscripted livestream. This is exactly the risk of showing a brand new device live like you can't edit out the glitches. If these kinds of moments happened during a major Apple launch event, imagine the impact on public perception and potentially even the company's share price. After all, even the iPhone X's Face ID failure during its live unveiling became one of the most talked about moments from the launch.
