Video narrated by Joe Buck (Joe Buck) On September 7, 1987, BuffaLouie’s opened its doors for the very first time. Today marks the start of our 40th year. Jay Lieser, a 21 year old Buffalo, New York native attending Indiana University, noticed something missing: there wasn’t a place to get authentic Buffalo Wings. On a wing and a prayer, BuffaLouie’s was born! With the help of his parents, Ed and Trudy, they brought the Buffalo Wing to Bloomington, Indiana. Jay named the restaurant after his grandfather, Louie Lieser, whose cigar smoking caricature became the logo. What started as one small restaurant at 711 W. 17th St. off the campus of Indiana University has grown into something much bigger than anyone could have imagined. BuffaLouie’s opened the same year Bob Knight’s Indiana Basketball team won the National Championship when Keith Smart hit “The Shot”. Since then, we have become a part of the heartbeat of IU. We’ve grown alongside the nation’s largest alumni community, serving generations of Hoosiers. And now, as the Indiana Hoosiers Football Team stands as National Champions, we begin our 40th year, celebrating our community, legendary food, unforgettable memories with family & friends, Hoosier Hospitality, and a Championship Tradition that has defined BuffaLouie’s since 1987.
