Yesterday, I had the honor of attending MSG Duty’s reactivation ceremony at Embajada de los EE.UU. en Caracas in Caracas. For generations, the U.S. Marines and Department of State have stood shoulder to shoulder—protecting our people, safeguarding our missions, and enabling American diplomacy around the world.

Last night at Virginia Tech, I had the honor of rendering the First Salute and presenting the Commandant’s Trophy to two VT Corps of Cadets who were top candidates at OCS this summer. These cadets represent the next generation of leaders who will serve the Nation and lead Marines.

On Thursday, I had the honor of administering the oath to poolees and officer candidates at the 9/11 Memorial. A special moment on hallowed ground, where they took the first step on their journey to earn the title Marine and carry forward the responsibility to defend our Nation.

On Tuesday, I met with Marines of VMFA-225 and the 22nd MEU supporting U.S. Southern Command. When you send U.S. Marines forward, we establish C2, generate sustainment, and project combat power to enable the joint fight.

As Commandant, there is nothing I enjoy more than visiting Marines. Thank you to the Marines & Sailors of the 22nd MEU for hosting me. You are clearly ready to deploy and represent our Nation as a credible crisis response force, & I look forward to seeing what you accomplish.

Leaders, career planners, and recruiters worked diligently this fiscal year, and their efforts coupled with the desire of individual Marines wanting to “Stay Marine” allowed the U.S. Marines to achieve historic first-term re-enlistment numbers and exceed our retention goal.
