Angelo Ferrari dropped to a knee 32 times (this did not include attacks or when he was attacked, just when he was neutral, out of contact, and dropped to a knee)for a total of 2 minutes and 34 seconds. Coach Brands mentioned Angelo would do well to add some fakes into his arsenal.

This is the first time I saw Ben Askren wrestle. The big fro and the crazy technique were pretty mind blowing to witness. Knowing the dominance both Jake Herbert and Ben showed that year, it's hard to imagine a bonus point win for either. But that's exactly what Ben did. It's Ben's birthday today! Happy birthday to the legendary Ben Askren!!

I think people forget just how great the 125 pound bracket was in 2018. Spencer Lee, Nathan Tomasello, Darian Cruz and Nick Suriano were the semi finalists. Spencer was pitted against NATO a national champ and one of the few men to own a win over Spencer Lee. NATO beat Spencer in the Big Ten semis 2 weeks prior and now the two were set to tangle in the NCAA semis. Ultimately this match was all Spencer Lee, culminating with a pin after a failed leg pass by Tomasello. The fact that people continued to try to pass Spencer's leg after this sequence boggles my mind, but they kept trying, and it usually ended a lot like this.

It's an interesting decision for the FloWrestling rankers: How do you treat injury defaults in rankings? Historically, the notion that no result can be assumed was the ethos of rankers. That said, exceptions can also exist and be considered. #29 PJ Duke put the rankers to the test when his domination of #12 Logan Rozynski was stopped short when Rozynski got injured and had to default. They decided to move PJ from 29th to 12th based on this result. What do you think makes the most sense?

Aaron Pico was an absolute monster in wrestling. Apart from making the Olympic Trials finals in high school, one of his crowning achievements was being 6-0 against Zain Retherford. While this certainly wasn't Zain in his final form, don't misunderstand the situation. Zain was coming off an All-American finish where he notched a win over Logan Stieber. He also was a Cadet World Champion previously as well. While this win was in 2014, their final meeting took place in 2015, just a few months before Zain would begin a historic sophomore season which lead to an undefeated national title. Pico's departure from wrestling was a bummer for wrestling die hards, but I'm excited to see what he can do in the UFC. Those hands are HEAVY.

Lost in the insanity of Matt Ramos pinning Spencer Lee was the fact that immediately afterwards, Vito Arujau picked apart his longtime rival and World Silver medalist Daton Fix by a shocking major decision. Wins like this are a large reason Vito was a finalist the All Quarter century team at 133.

Keegan O'Toole showed serious guts at the NCAA tournament. Dealing with a knee injury, Keegan wasn't wrestling his crispest. He showed incredible grit and resolve in his run to a 2nd place finish, including here against Stanford's Lorenzo Norman. Down late, Keegan went clutch mode with two beautiful duck unders to get the win.

While no freshman has landed the headlines of Josh Barr for this season, there's a strong case that Max McEnelly has had the best year of any freshman. The Minnesota 184 pounder is 29-0 for his career. 17-0 this year with 88% bonus rate (just two decisions). He has dominated some incredible talents including Big Ten champion Silas Allred. Max has great defense, utilizing perfectly timed re-attacks. He can generate from his feet with a powerful double or a lightning-quick single leg. Max is in in a difficult weight class with 4x NCAA Champ Carter Starocci and undefeated NCAA Champ, Parker Keckeisen. Throw in someone as good as Dustin Plott and you have one of the most top-heavy weights we've seen in years. I can't wait to see Max test himself against the top of the weight class.
