I was deeply shocked by the horrific incident in which a woman, Rachel Muthoni Wandeto, had acid poured on her simply for holding a different political view. How did we, as a country, get here? When did human life become so cheap that people can commit such barbaric acts against fellow citizens over political differences? How have we allowed the radicalisation of supporters to the point where they are filled with such visceral hatred for opposing leaders and their followers? When exactly did politics turn into a matter of life and death? We must reject this dangerous path. Politics is seasonal, it comes and goes, but we remain neighbours, communities and countrymen long after the elections are over. This level of intolerance and violence should have no place among us. I feel saddened and heartbroken. 😔
