A British backpacker has been sentenced to four years in prison in Australia after killing a man while riding an electric scooter. 25-year-old Alicia Kemp was over the legal blood alcohol limit when she hit Thanh Phan in Perth in May. He died in hospital several days later after suffering a brain bleed.

There are 34 candidates on the ballot paper, so the local council needs larger tables than usual for the count. The contest is estimated to have cost taxpayers around £250,000. The main Westminster parties are boycotting the election which they have dismissed as a stunt.

Part of the building was damaged and a fire broke out on an upper floor. President Zelenskyy said because students and teachers had been in a shelter, no-one had been injured. But he said Russia should bear "clear responsibility" for attacking Ukrainian children and schools.

Mr Farage was filmed by undercover reporters from Verbatim as part of a year-long investigation that Channel 4 News has thoroughly checked and verified. Sagal Abdi-Wali has made history as the first British Somali person elected as an MP, winning the Holborn and St Pancras by-election. The 42-year-old Labour politician arrived in the UK as a child refugee from Somalia. Before entering Parliament, she worked as a housing officer and went on to become leader of Camden Council. The plan is not yet approved but there are two proposals to fund the project: either taxpayers or United Utilities customers in the north west pay. Johannes Kongsne Natland was 18 when he agreed to kill someone for €25,000 last year after being “recruited” by Foxtrot Network, a Swedish organised crime group backed by the Iranian regime. He was arrested in a hotel room in Huddersfield with guns and ammunition but the intended target remains unknown.
