Chandrika's Batalanda responsibility In this 2022 interview with Sirasa, Chandrika Bandaranaike was asked whether she had any regrets about her presidency. In a 11 minute answer after this long pause, she mentioned Ranil multiple times on various matters. But not once did she mention her failure to table the Batalanda report in parliament. In 1999, Mangala Samaraweera said that CBK had not publicised the report because she didn't want to be seen as politically victimising her main rival ahead of the election. He promised that she would make the report public after the election. However, despite remaining in office for another six years, she did not. Much is said about the symbiotic relationship between Mahinda and Ranil, but not enough about the bond between CBK and RW. She had the power to expose RW's culpability, but chose to shield him, possibly due to their decades-long acquaintance. The "friendships" in Sri Lankan politics run wide and deep. #SriLanka
