The UPDF’s rapturous reception in DRC’s Bule town today demonstrates its special and historical connection with ordinary wanainchi. It is a sharp contrast to other elements operating in the region: the UN, the illegitimate governments, warlords or rogue commanders and governors. Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF)

I thank you Godber Tumushabe for the benefit of doubt, and I appreciate it. Have you not seen or heard the NUP supremo Mr Kyagulanyi, and his lieutenants the Luttamuguzi’s, and the Namboze’s, among others on several occasions, urging their supporters to take on the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and Uganda Police Force ? The kind of rhetoric designed to mislead unsuspecting young Ugandans into violent confrontations with the security forces? The Daily Monitor has been writing that there is no evidence of NUP leaders inciting violence or an insurrection. Really? Is this how votes are protected? What is the Nation Media Group trying to achieve here? The security forces condemn the calls to violence by some political actors and appeal to Ugandans to reject them. We also appeal to citizens to adhere to Article 17 of the Constitution of Uganda.

UPDF patrols in Kampala have commenced today. No cause for alarm. However, we do not take threats of violence during the election period by some political actors and their supporters lightly. Working alongside the police, our objective is to make sure everyone is safe and assured. Public and private property will be kept safe and secure. Cases of criminality or threats to public order will be dealt with promptly and in compliance with the laws of Uganda.

Context, one of the basics of journalism, is important: Clarification On Misleading Reporting by NTV Uganda Our attention has been drawn to a news story recently aired by NTV - Uganda which, through its framing and reporting, significantly distorted a message intended for public safety and national stability. We wish to state categorically that the framing presented by the NTV reporter, implying that threats of violence were issued against voters is false, misleading, and an inaccurate reflection of both the substance and intention of the original message. The original statement was a cautionary appeal rooted in safeguarding human life. It was specifically directed at the youth, urging them to exercise wisdom and avoid being manipulated into participating in street violence, riots, or unlawful gatherings. The core of the message emphasised: 1. Protection of the Vulnerable: Recognising that those who incite violence often remain in safety while young people face the brunt of law enforcement. 2. Public Order: A call for calm and responsible conduct to ensure that the democratic process is not marred by chaos. 3. Democratic Rights: At no point was the message intended to intimidate voters or discourage any citizen from exercising their constitutional right to vote. The suggestion by NTV - Uganda that this advisory constituted a "threat" to peaceful citizens is a grave distortion. Such reporting fails to provide the full context and risks inciting unnecessary fear and tension among the public. We believe this misinterpretation stems from a lack of attentiveness to the constructive nature of the appeal. We urge all media houses to practice responsible and accurate journalism, particularly on sensitive national matters. Misleading headlines and biased framing only serve to undermine the peace they claim to protect. We reiterate our call to the citizens of Uganda: Go out and vote peacefully, and thereafter, return home safely. We remain committed to a peaceful election where every Ugandan can vote without fear. UPDF troops arrived in Bunia, Ituri province, DRC today. FARDC is co-operating very well with UPDF. There is huge support from the people of Bunia. The CDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba a few days ago revealed that the joint forces would occupy the city and surrounding areas to protect the residents from attacks by armed violent groups, this has come to pass!

The NUP political grouping has in the recent past adopted an increasingly militant and aggressive posture. The leaders and supporters are engaging in highly divisive hate speech and incitement to violence. This approach is reckless and misguided adventurism, and the party would be well served to abandon that incendiary path. The Great Lakes is one of the most volatile regions in the world, with hundreds of armed violent pseudo political organizations clamoring for power and influence. Uganda acts as a key frontline state to keep many of these violent groups at bay, some of which are terrorist in nature. As one of the most experienced and vigilant counter insurgency force in the world, the UPDF and sister security services are watching the NUP development very closely, and will not hesitate to take decisive countermeasures as appropriate. We strongly recommend that legitimate grievances against the state are addressed through the relevant authorities, such as the courts of law, among others. Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF)

It was a pleasure to receive the fifth group of 153 Ugandan returnees who flew in from Cape Town, South Africa, at the stroke of midnight this morning. This brings the total number of evacuees to 883 since the beginning of the repatriation exercise 5 days ago. Another group of 268 is expected to fly in later this evening at 23:45, marking the end of Phase 1 of the operation. We thank the government of Uganda, and in particular, HEX the President, Gen YKM, the CDF & SPA/SO Gen MK, the MFA, and Uganda’s High Commission in Pretoria for effectively directing and coordinating the operation. Immense economic opportunities abound at home, and Ugandans uncomfortable abroad are encouraged to return home and exploit them. Karibuni!

On Friday August 1, 2025, a herd of about 400 elephants from Kidepo National Park invaded neighbouring Abim District, causing panic in the population amidst widespread destruction of agricultural fields and farmland. The UPDF Airforce promptly responded today (Saturday) by deploying helicopters that have successfully driven back the marauding elephants to the Kidepo game reserve. Decisive action to the threat of food security for the people in the area. Bravo!
