I strongly, strongly recommend giving Troy (🌟🌟🌟🌟) a rewatch before going into The Odyssey. Revisiting Troy last weekend was just one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. Nolan quite literally picks off right where Troy ends, so if your memory on The Odyssey is a bit hazy, I strongly recommend revisiting Troy.

I have one question for the Christopher Nolan haters/for all the folks on this here app who questioned Nolan: what’s it like being on the wrong side of history? I’m truly, genuinely asking. What’s it like having to go to sleep at night knowing you were so fucking wrong? Face the music. Look in the mirror. Christopher Nolan just brushed you off his shoulder.

Matt Damon just gave the best performance of his life in The Odyssey. Better than Good Will Hunting. Better than The Martian. Better than any of the countless, iconic performances Damon has given over the years. The Odyssey cements Damon as a Hollywood icon if he wasn’t one already. What a performance.

FIRST LOOK: The Brink of War is an upcoming political thriller about President Reagan's efforts to negotiate nuclear disarmament with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Jeff Daniels plays Ronald Reagan & Jared Harris plays Mikhail Gorbachev while J.K. Simmons plays George Shultz. In other words, the cast is loaded. I’m partial to any political thriller, it’s a genre I love. This is added to my Letterboxd watchlist.

Daniel Kaluuya hasn’t starred in a major release in four years. What gives? He’s only 37, already has an Oscar & is clearly one of the most talented actors on Earth. It confuses me why he’s not making more films right now. This guy is a world-class actor in every sense imaginable

I woke up this morning and The Odyssey (🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟) is still the only thing on my mind. This is the first review I’ve ever done since running this app that required two tweets. I’m still processing. Still spinning. Still on a high from what I experienced at the TCL Chinese Theatres yesterday. Long live Christopher Nolan. Long Live Cinema.

Tom Cruise is hoping Alejandro Iñárritu can do for Cruise what he did for Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant: help him win the Oscar for Best Actor after years of knocking on the door. It’s not just Leo- Iñárritu nearly helped Michael Keaton win Best Actor for Birdman. In other words, Cruise is in good hands.

I have seen a few minutes of Dune: Part 3 & I truly can’t process how fucking good this movie is going to be. The battle for the Oscar for Best Picture between Dune & The Odyssey might be the most competitive Best Picture battle of our lives. We will tell our grandchildren about this year. The film looks horrifying & utterly stunning. What a cherry on-top of a great day.

Matt Damon & Edward Norton are at the center of Hollywood right now nearly 30 years after they made Rounders together. With Damon, he just gave a career-best performance in The Odyssey. With Norton, he just gave a (maybe?) career-best performance in The Invite. Two veteran actors, still doing it years after making a classic together. Legends.

Robert Pattinson could never act again & his filmography would already be up there with the all-time greats. He already made The Drama & The Odyssey this year (not to mention a loaded 2025) and he’s just getting warmed up in ‘26. Set aside Dune: Part 3, he’s also playing Chris Hansen in the upcoming A24 release Primetime. Pattinson is separating himself from every other age of his generation.

The Odyssey’s scope, scale & magnitude reminds me of Gladiator. I’m too young to have seen Gladiator in theaters & I don’t know what the immediate reaction to it was at the time in 2000, but in terms of swords & sandals, I don’t know if I’ve seen a film compare to Gladiator other than The Odyssey. Both films are on another level separate from Troy. And both feature exceptional leading performances.

DEVELOPING: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is being met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. Early critic responses have noted that Matt Damon & Robert Pattinson are excellent and Nolan’s use of IMAX cameras comes through in a resounding way. I’m seeing the film next Thursday & I truly can’t wait. I hope these early reviews are accurate.

The Rock’s career is at a crossroads- I really believe that. My difficulty with The Rock is that he makes questionable creative decisions. I think he can act. Do I think he’s Laurence Olivier? Be serious. But the scripts The Rock picks & the films he chooses to make haven’t made a lot of sense. I loved The Smashing Machine but now a live-action Moana followed by another Jumanji? The Rock’s filmography isn’t as strong as it should be at this stage of his career. I question if it will improve.

If there’s one thing that was missing from The Odyssey, it’s Cillian Murphy. Don’t get me wrong- I love, love, love the entire cast & enjoy Nolan exploring new actors. But you can’t tell me with a straight face that Cillian wouldn’t have crushed even a small role in this film. I’m being fussy, but would’ve loved Cillian in The Odyssey.

I still can’t stop thinking about the Dune: Part 3 footage we were shown before The Odyssey on Thursday. How the hell are people supposed to pick between Nolan & Denis for Best Director? It’s going to be an Oscar race for the ages. I’m still spinning from Thursday. I’m still in disbelief.

Matt Damon didn’t even receive an Oscar nomination for The Departed, which is relevant as his stars in The Odyssey next week, a film that might earn Damon his first acting Oscar. Damon’s quietly been snubbed by the Academy a handful of times over the course of his career & this might be the most egregious. He holds this entire film together along with Leo.

Vice Principals is one of the best things HBO has ever done- and they’ve done a lot of great things. Walter Goggins & Danny McBride were born to work together. Perfect chemistry. No notes. I also love how deliberate this series was: the entire story was planned from the start as a finite 18-episode limited run, split over two seasons. The result? Comedic excellence.
