Daniel Kaluuya hasn’t starred in a major release in four years. What gives? He’s only 37, already has an Oscar & is clearly one of the most talented actors on Earth. It confuses me why he’s not making more films right now. This guy is a world-class actor in every sense imaginable

BREAKING: Netflix just dropped the first trailer for In the Hand of Dante, featuring Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Al Pacino and Martin Scorsese. This film has been on my radar for such a long time- I can’t believe we’re finally getting the release on June 24th. This looks excellent.

Clint Eastwood has reportedly retired from filmmaking at 96. If this is really it- if Eastwood never walks on another film set again- it’s been absolutely one hell of a ride. I can’t think of a single person who has done more for Cinema than Clint. He’s an ambassador to film 🎂

Martin Scorsese is one of my biggest heroes. He’s simply the reason I started this account. I started #ScorseseSundays in his honor 6 years ago. But news today of Marty signing on for AI that supposedly replaces storyboard artists is- in one word- devastating. I’m a bit shocked.

The gap between Apple TV & HBO is rapidly disintegrating into thin air because Apple TV continues to make excellent projects while HBO slightly lags. Gone are the days of True Detective- a show of this quality isn’t on HBO anymore. HBO once owned Prestige TV with shows like this.

Steven Spielberg had to convince John Williams, who is 94, to score Spielberg’s latest film Disclosure Day. It sounds like from early reviews that Williams knocked out of the park, despite the fact 100 is within sight. I’m so happy these two made another film together. Let’s roll

I don’t want Clint Eastwood to stop acting or making films. Even if he’s 96- even if he’s given us a lifetime of great moments- I don’t want it to end. Eastwood’s handled his career with grace & class for decades. I can’t understate his contributions to this art form. Legend.

I’m Martin Scorsese’s single greatest defender on this app. But Marty’s decision to use AI to replace working sketch artists is day-ruining news. The more I chew on this, the more it upsets me. This cuts against so many things Scorsese has stood for his entire career. Money grab.

Bottle Rocket was the film that started it all for Wes Anderson, which he co-wrote with Owen Wilson back in 1996. I’m not sure Owen has ever done anything better than this film- which is saying a lot considering his career is filled with quality films. This started everything.

Apple TV just proved my point even further today: the trailer for Sugar, Season 2 just dropped & it’s more proof that Apple TV is the ruler of television right now. Colin Farrell is so damn good in this show & I love the LA noir vibes. This entire cast brings me so much joy.

DEVELOPING: James Franco is joining the cast of the Rambo prequel film. Set years before the events of 1982's First Blood, Franco is not Rambo, but rather the heavy. Noah Centineo will walk in Stallone’s footsteps as John Rambo. Stallone was nearly perfect here- hard to recreate.

Tom Cruise is profound in The Last Samurai. This performance is unlike anything else Cruise has done in his career. And while this movie earned 4 Oscar nominations, Cruise wasn’t one of them. I just don’t get the Academy’s affinity with constantly snubbing Cruise over and over.

Maybe we took Pierce Brosnan for granted as 007. This guy was the perfect Bond at the perfect time - he was exactly what this franchise needed in the late ‘90s. I’ve said it before but I would love a reboot with Brosnan as an older, retired Bond pulled back into the force.

Mystic River might not be Clint Eastwood’s best film (that would be Unforgiven) but I’d argue that Sean Penn’s Oscar-winning performance here is the best performance in any Eastwood film ever. Hackman in Unforgiven comes close, but Penn is the best out of Eastwood’s films.

The Scorsese-AI news is hitting me really hard. So hard. Worst taste in my mouth ever. I’ve been reading, watching & following Marty since I saw The Aviator as a kid. It just feels like Scorsese is selling out & turning his back on Cinema. I have to admit, it really upsets me.

Am I allowed to say Quentin Tarantino simply for the fact Tarantino hasn’t made a movie in almost 7 years? I honestly think that’s worse than making stinkers. To make a bad film is to at least try. Tarantino sort of acts like he’s above Cinema right now. I don’t love his stance.

Clint Eastwood is 96 today & out of all the amazing things this man has accomplished over the course of his lifetime, I don’t think he’s ever topped Unforgiven. This film won Eastwood Best Director & Best Picture at the Oscars & rightfully so. Cheers to a Cinema legend. 🎂

There’s a parallel universe where The Wiz is a film that every last person in America has seen. Diana Ross & Michael Jackson are so damn good in this film, I don’t even have the words. That’s all without mentioning that my guy Sidney Lumet directed this movie. The Wiz is amazing.

Tommy Lee Jones won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for The Fugitive because he not only matched Harrison Ford’s star-power in this film, he honestly surpassed it. This film belongs to Jones: he is in command from start to finish. This is historically-great acting from Jones.
