I wanted to see where Hy4 preview would stop, so I gave it a deliberately demanding prompt: “Build a working Cyber Incident Command Center.” Not a mockup. A real, responsive app with a live threat map, animated attack routes, incident simulation, filters, investigation panels, event logs, ownership controls, and working isolate/resolve actions. Hy4 preview planned the build, wrote the application, ran it locally, tested the interactions, checked the mobile layout, fixed issues, and opened the finished product for review. Then I clicked “Simulate.” A new incident appeared, the dashboard updated, I filtered it by severity, opened the evidence trail, isolated the affected system, and resolved it. The KPI counters changed with the action. That’s a much more useful coding demo to me than watching code appear in an editor. Hy4 preview is Hunyuan’s third major release in six months. It’s fully open-sourced, with 770B total parameters, 49B activated, and a 1M+ token context window. Tencent built it around productivity scenarios through close work with experts in software engineering, gaming, finance, and security, plus direct co-design with tools like WorkBuddy. In an internal blind test covering 203 engineering tasks and 163 Tencent experts, it scored 2.99/4—slightly ahead of Kimi K3 at 2.94 and GLM 5.3 at 2.92. Chinese models are 112x cheaper than Anthropic per million tokens. Chamath laid it out on CNBC: a "barrel of intelligence" costs $56 from Anthropic, $26 from OpenAI, $1.50 from Meta, $1 from xAI and Google, and $0.50 from Chinese models. That is not a pricing quirk. That is the steepest commodity curve any technology has run in recorded history. Oil took 40 years to compress like this. Semiconductors took 20. AI inference is doing it in months. The companies sitting at $26 and $56 are not stupid. They're buying time… betting that trust, safety, and enterprise contracts hold the premium long enough for costs to catch up. What they cannot bet on is the timeline. Because the $0.50 model is not a demo. I've been inside the labs building it.

China just open sourced an embodied AI model series. and the demo is wild. They ripped the network cable out of a robot dog mid run. it kept tracking like nothing happened. No cloud. no wifi. a 0.9B model running entirely on the dog. This is MiniCPM-Robot 🧵
