Real quick thoughts on Bellum - which entered Beta yesterday. 1) There is nothing else like it. It's the only game designed specifically to force teamwork in a hardcore PVP tactical shooter. It does it in new ways: SA tools locked to leadership roles, novel respawn mechanics requiring you to maneuver near teammates and punishes lone wolves, and more. 2) It's a game about gunfights, and it does them so damn well. Fire and maneuver works. Fire superiority matters. Cover, concealment, obscuration, even IMTs are rewarded while bonzai charges are nearly always fatal. 3) I think what speaks to me most is how well it models the cognitive overload of a maneuver leader. A Squad leader in this game is monitoring/working up to 2 nets + local at once - Command, Squad, and VOIP. This is modeled in other games, of course. But Bellum adds some spice - your hand comes off your weapon to activate the PTT, so you can't fire particularly well or do medical tasks while working a net. By default, you have platoon assault net in one ear and squad assault in the other. It feels like I'm wearing peltors for an FMP or going on target. But despite all of the stimulus, leaders have to stay locked in to win, painting the picture for their squads, reporting higher, marking the map, and getting shit done despite the chaos. It's in day 2 of beta, so I'll hold my criticisms for now. But this game is on track to do some things we've not seen before, and to do them exceptionally well. Very excited to see where this one goes.

Gen 6 first impressions. It's a Glock. You probably don't need it if you have a Gen 4/5 or two that you're happy with, but it's also a great entry point for dudes who want a Glock but don't have one. Shooter preference, but I like the palm swell. Shooting dynamics are fast, snappy, and predictable with factory 124 grain. Glock trigger. Heavy, squishy, rolling break. Feels a bit over sprung but that's all stock striker guns. I like the palm swell. Some may not. Shooter preference. Mechanical accuracy seems better than the DR920 I usually shoot. First time I've shot irons in like five years. They're still slower and worse in every measurable way to a dot. Happy with the purchase. Eager to get it tuned up how I like.

Guys. Seriously. Just watch this. No special editing. Just straight gameplay. RoN is immersive on it's own. The fact that it's a highly detailed shooter with absurd amounts of interactions and environmental storytelling makes it the perfect VR candidate. Add voice commands and👌

January fitness check in. Legs today. Still sick-ish and felt it in recovery between sets. Worked up to 275 then 3x3. Dropped to 225 for 5x5. Then work capacity triplet. 5 rounds 10x squat at 135 10x KB Goblet Squat 10x Weighted step ups Overall making progress. I'm sitting at a pretty lean 180. Not counting calories but probably 2500 a day. - 2-3 clean meals - 100ish grams of protein - 7-10 grams creatine - Generic pre-workout - Mushroom coffee to cut back on caffeine - no booze - junk snacks in Sunday only Bench working sets at 245 for 3x3. Pulling 345 on dead lift for 5x5. Squats comfortable at 275 for 3-5. Five mile is around 37 minutes. Was pretty disciplined this month. Missed 3 workouts to illness and did 2 shitty ones in a hotel gym. Still need to get stronger, faster, and build work capacity. (Without getting hurt).

It's frustrating. Shooting well is hard. Shooting "pretty good" is actually pretty easy. Let's arbitrarily define "pretty good" as top 3% of gun owners or top 15% of military and police. Despite it being pretty easy to get pretty good, most never do because it's pretty boring.

Walked through the woods dodging patrols and enemy air for a literal hour without firing a shot. Finally got in a decent position to target their hotshot Huey pilot who was doing resupply runs. Found his LZ, ranged it, watched him do two runs but each time he landed tail to me, preventing the shot. Until...
