![[SUSPECTS ARRESTED] 3 suspects were arrested this morning, and are expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 27 December 2024, charged for attempted murder. The 53-year-old, Mare Hanscombe who was stabbed with a sharp object, has been discharged from the hospital this morning. The incident happened on Monday, 16 December 2024, at about 17:10 at Hanscombe Resort in Orkney. It is alleged that on the said day, a group of people were at the resort entertaining themselves. Whilst there, it was noticed by one of the workers that they were smoking hubbly-bubbly, and that is not allowed. The employee tried to warn them not to do that, but allegedly, the group did not cooperate, and the owner was called. Upon arrival, Hanscombe also tried to warn the group to stop what they were doing, and asked the group that he'll take the hubbly-bubbly and keep it safe in the reception and when the leave, they can just take it there. Furthermore, one of the men who was part of the group became aggressive and attacked Hanscombe and that's when the fighting ensued. During the altercation, Hanscombe was stabbed on the back and was rushed to the local hospital. ![[DID YOU KNOW] Disobeying the South African Police Service National Instruction 5 of 2017 is a punishable offence in terms of disciplinary regulations. The new trend of posting pictures and video clips in uniform on various social media platforms, directly contravenes National Instruction 5 of 2017. According to Section 19(10) of National Instruction 5 of 2017 on Media Communication in the South African Police Service, the following rules must be adhered to: No member may, on their own accord, represent the SAPS on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc., either on their own social media accounts or those belonging to the SAPS. No member may use a profile picture of themselves in uniform or display any police insignia, badges, or logos as their avatar on their private social media accounts. Only with the approval of the Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison may a social media profile be set up for or on behalf of the SAPS on any social network. Accordingly, no station, cluster, unit, or office of the SAPS is permitted to have a social media profile or account without approval. These regulations ensure that all members execute their duties professionally within the confines of the law. Any employee who transgresses in any form or manner will be subjected to the processes of the applicable Disciplinary Regulations. All SAPS members are required to subscribe to the SAPS Code of Conduct and Dress Code and adhere to them when performing their daily duties and interacting with the public. ![[UNDER INVESTIGATION] An investigation is underway regarding an incident (with video circulated on various social media platforms) whereby a SAPS Constable allegedly assaulted a member of the public. The incident is said to have occurred on 02 April 2026, at the Volksrust Police Station. It is worth noting that in light of the serious allegation, the SAPS has instituted an internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure all aspects of this matter are addressed transparently. ![[ONE KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED BY A MOB IN A STOCKTHEFT RELATED INCIDENT] Police at Verena are investigating a stock theft related incident whereby two male persons were reportedly cornered and assaulted by an unidentified group of people after being reportedly found with livestock believed to have been stolen. One of the alleged suspects died whilst the other one sustained some injuries. The incident occurred in Verena on Wednesday, 24 December 2024. According to a report, Police as well Medical Emergency Services were called to the scene, and it was during this period when one of the men was pronounced dead, while the other was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is currently hospitalized under Police guard. The incident is believed to be linked to stocktheft incident, where 26 cattle, six goats, and a donkey were reportedly stolen from a certain farm in Verena. The Police investigation indicates that a shepherd was attacked earlier that day then robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. Thereafter, the suspects are believed to have fled the scene in two bakkies with trailers when their vehicles got stuck in the mud, leading to their capture and attack by the mob. ![[SANGOMA APPEARS IN COURT FOR PREMEDITATED MURDER] A Lesotho National Sangoma, Sebokoana Khounyana (50), appeared at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on charges of premeditated murder and Human trafficking of a 02-year-old baby Kutlwano Shalaba. A charge of premeditated murder was added against the mother Keneilwe Portia Shalaba (32), who was previously facing charges of human trafficking, conspiracy to commit robbery and making a false statement to the police. It is alleged that on 10 November 2024, the mother of the child took the child to the sangoma and requested him to kill her child because she was not happy with the gender of the baby and was tired of hiding it from her family that in fact, the child was a girl. The mother then allegedly fed the baby poison and after the baby died it is alleged that the two took the child and buried her body in a shallow grave in Waterpan After investigations by the police, the sangoma was arrested on 29 May 2025 and he subsequently made a confession and pointed out to the police about where the body of the child was buried. In court, the matter was postponed to 05 June 2025, for legal representation for the sangoma. The state intends to oppose his release on bail. ![[HIJACKING AND KIDNAPPING] Police foiled a kidnapping plot in Katlehong, resulting in the rescue of two victims and the arrest of four suspects, including a popular Vaal DJ Spitjo from Sebokeng. Preliminary report suggests that, information was received from a night-shift security officer at Eastgate Mall regarding suspicious activities involving individuals impersonating another person using her mobile phone. Acting on this intelligence, police initiated a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation which led to the arrest of three suspects at Eastgate Mall. Subsequent investigations directed the police to a safe house in Dikole Section, Katlehong. Upon arrival, an exchange of gunfire ensued. One additional suspect was apprehended at the scene, and two unlicensed firearms with live ammunition were recovered. Two victims, a male and a female, were found at the ‘safe house’ and rescued without injuries. ![[PROMOTED] Warrant Officer TM Mnisi, who recently displayed exceptional bravery while off duty and on his way home when he observed a business robbery in progress at the Boxer store in Orange Farm, has been promoted to the rank of CAPTAIN. On 12 December 2025 at approximately 18:00, Captain Mnisi, who was stationed at the Sedibeng K9 Unit, confronted a group of armed suspects and immediately requested backup. He strategically positioned his state vehicle to block the entrance to the parking area in an effort to prevent the suspects from fleeing. Upon noticing that the exit was blocked, the suspects opened fire. Captain Mnisi returned fire, and during the exchange he sustained a gunshot wound to his back right shoulder. Despite his injury, he managed to drive himself to the nearby Stretford Clinic, where he received medical treatment. In a highly dangerous and complex operation along the Komati River, Captain Potgieter was hoisted from a SANPARKS helicopter into a crocodile-infested river, where he courageously secured a crocodile using a rope under extremely dangerous conditions. The animal which was already euthanized was then safely lifted and relocated, enabling the police and other experts to recover the remains of a suspected missing person. ![[‘MATRIC DANCE’ ESCORT POLICE OFFICERS] The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has instructed that police officers who were seen transporting a learner to a matric dance function using a police vehicle in Estcourt be temporarily removed from operations pending internal investigation on their conduct. The officers, as seen in a video which has gone viral on various media platforms and social media, were on duty when they transported the child of a colleague to a matric dance event. In doing so, the members neglected their primary responsibilities of providing much needed police visibility, attending to complaints and keeping residents safe and secured. “I have instructed the District Commissioner of Uthukela to ensure that the immediate commander of the officers involved must take urgent disciplinary steps against them. We cannot afford to have police officers who report for duty but use state resources for their personal gain. I have further instructed our finance and supply chain management officers to determine the financial loss that the state could have suffered by that unauthorised activity. State petrol, state time and running cost of that vehicle should be claimed from those members. Communities always complain that when they call police stations they are told that there are no vans, whilst police officers are galavanting with state resources that are meant to serve the communities”, said Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi. Police are reminded to be professional at all times and protect the image of the organisation.
