Roman Khrennikov gave us one of the most powerful moments in CrossFit Games history. Khrennikov, who trains out of Cookeville, Tennessee, led the 2023 CrossFit Games for two-thirds of the competition before sustaining a left-foot injury on the final day of competition. Instead of withdrawing, Roman decided to try and finish to set an example for his son. In an unforgettable moment, he taught all who watched a lesson in courage. “I want to set be a hero for my son and have him see me fight to the end,” said Roman after Test 10 of 12. Khrennikov finished third overall and was awarded one of the highest honors among the CrossFit community. Nicole Carroll, CrossFit’s Chief Brand Officer, on Roman’s performance: “The person receiving this year's Spirit of the Games award has faced many challenges and made many sacrifices on his way to competing at the CrossFit Games. Roman Khrennikov is incredible! Watch → Heading into the final day of the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games, Khrennikov was on the hunt to become the Fittest Man on Earth. After suffering a foot injury in the first test Sunday morning, Khrennikov decided to try and finish. With the CrossFit community cheering him on, Khrennikov fought through heavy jump rope double-unders, parallel-bar traverses, and sled pulls — on one foot.
