I kept seeing different types of pictures of the reflecting pool, so I figured I’d go down there and check it out and do some reporting lol. It’s basically a tale of two perspectives. From right next to the water it looks like the ninja Turtles secret of the ooze. It’s actually so green. It’s kind of neat and interesting, but also kind of gross looking. some kind of chemical reaction happened. But then when I went up to Lincoln and looked at it, it looked much cooler and much bluer. However, from what it looks like, they’re gonna have to do some kind of treatment of the water so that it’s not neon green.

I decided to take a train from Washington DC to Eugene, Oregon to watch my team JMU in the college football playoffs. It was an epic journey through multiple cities…. But all of a sudden, in the middle of Montana, things started to go wrong… Now the question is even though the game is not for several days will I even make it? Here’s a thread of what’s been going on… stay tuned for the second or third post to see what has happened…

I just spent $32 on a fish and chips lunch at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant at the wharf in DC, and it’s not the one you think. I knew about Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s kitchen restaurant at the wharf in Washington DC, but I didn’t realize that they also put in a Gordon Ramsay fish and chips right across the walkway. it is kinda like what would happen if a fast food restaurant changed their oil appropriately. The food comes out fast, the batter is light and fluffy and crispy and not stale, and it tastes good, not great. so as a fast food restaurant, this is a very good one, but I don’t think they think it’s fast food. Because after upgrading my fries and adding an iced tea, the total price I paid for this very small portion of food was $32. so if they’re not fast food, they’re competing with Irish pubs, and that might put the price more in the same range. But now that’s where the portion of food comes in, because at some Irish pubs, they give you like two or three full fish not just too little fish sticks. So, yes, you were paying an up charge for less food, and while the food is not terrible, I would still say it’s probably kind of a tourist trap. I don’t know what do you think? i’ll probably get my fish and chips at an Irish pub next time.

I went to the DMV legend the Italian Store and they actually made me a fresh sandwich on the spot. No More Premades! If you ever went to the original Italian Store in Arlington years ago it was always crowded and there was always a buzz. This year I went there and was very disappointed with the premade sandwich I ate, and I had given up hope. However, right down the street in the Arlington Neighborhood of Westover is the newer (11 years old wow) location that is just bustling with people and smiling faces. And I was beyond happy to be talking face to face to someone making me my custom sandwich easy on the peppers. My first Italian Store non pre-made sandwich since 2018!!! All they need to do is bring back the 'take a number' even if they don't need it lol. It was part of the fun.

Update: #4 the Oregon fans and the JMU fans and the college football fans have been so nice since this blew up. Multiple people have offered me a ride to Eugene, many people have invited me to their tailgate, and at least one person has invited me to stay at their house for free lol. Step one is getting this train to Spokane but after that, I think the fun is gonna begin. Go Dukes!!

Anyone remember Armand’s Pizza. It was Chicago style deep dish pizza that started in DC 50 years ago. At one point there were a bunch of them all over the DMV, but for the last few years, the final one remained in Rockville, Maryland. Well, unfortunately, Armand’s it’s about to be gone for good, as the final location will be closing in a week. Now, if you watch this channel, you know, I prefer Tavern style pizza if I’m in Chicago, and I do not eat deep dish pizza unless I’m inside Chicago 😜 (Shoutout Peaquods). So I had never been here before, but I felt like a lot of people might have some memories of this so I wanted to show them one last pizza. PS: Giordano’s, which is from Chicago just opened up a location in DC so maybe I’ll have to check that one out too lol.

I discovered a crazy Dukes Of Hazzard museum in the middle of the mountains in Virginia and it is a FREE activity less than 2 hours from DC. It is called "Cooter's Place" and it is run by one of the old cast members of the show. It has the famous car from the show, and some other vehicles and a lot of old merch. They also have a cafe with smash burgers and live music on weekends. It is pretty small, so unless you are the biggest fan ever, not worth going for alone. But It's right down the street from Luray Caverns, so you can do both. You can even do some of Skyline Drive on the trip if you want.

just when I thought I was a little bit sad. I end this game with the biggest smile on my face of all time. JMU fans are amazing. We stayed till the end. We fought back a little bit and man do I just love the entire college football experience. The college football playoff was incredible. Eugene, Oregon was the perfect toast,. The ducks were classy. You couldn’t ask for a better ending to the trip that didn’t involve a win. So love you JMU and love you college football fans who followed along! We ain’t going anywhere!

we did it! We made it to Eugene, Oregon together! After eight days in trains, planes, automobiles, and hotels, I have arrived in Eugene, Oregon to watch the college football playoff and my team JMU! It’s actually kind of crazy because I started to get emotional. When I stepped off the train people were waving at me, honking at me, and shaking my hand. And I just started to kind of tear up in my eyes. People are awesome. I didn’t even really do anything, but I feel like people were smiling and being positive about it, and that made me feel happy. Everybody in Oregon has welcomed me and people that aren’t even fans recognized the purple and we’re wishing me luck. The game hasn’t even started yet and fans of every team have already won. I love sports! #jmu #oregonducks #collegefootball #cfp #eugeneoregon

today I found myself in a place called Lucketts Virginia. It’s north of Leesburg and south of point of rocks Maryland. I don’t know if it’s a town or if it’s just an intersection. But they have a couple antique shops, and who would’ve ever thought but I just went “antiquing”. The place I went is called the old Lucketts store and it’s an old big house with a dozen rooms and multiple levels filled with everything and anything you can imagine. I can certainly imagine people would love to go here on a weekend.

finally! We are off the train! I slept on board trains for three straight nights. We were on there for four total days and man does it feel good to be on solid ground. Our troubles aren’t completely over because it is snowy/freezing rain but I think that’s just a perfect welcome to the Pacific Northwest. The next leg of our journey is getting to Portland, Oregon from Spokane so I’ll be heading to the airport! Let’s see if we can make this flight!!!!

i’m no longer worried about making the game in time! We have many options ahead of us and the best option to keep me off the icy roads as if this plane can get us out of here! This plane is only taking us to Portland but once we’re there, there are lots of ways to get to Eugene. 24 hours ago I was panicking and all of a sudden we’re looking golden! Let’s go Dukes!

Why had I never been to these "secret" islands in DC? Well yesterday we went, and this is such an incredible DC Summer Activity everyone should do. We cooled down with a mango slushie at a new-ish waterfront pizza spot (ALX) and sipped on some summer crushes at an island bar by the Pentagon (DC). Plus we went back to the more well known Theodore Roosevelt Island which is one of the coolest monuments in DC. If you go to these places I highly recommend riding a bike. They are all off the Mount Vernon trail and all of them have terrible parking situations. This was an AMAZING day in and around the city...

This LEGEND is the spot to grab a cheesesteak in the DMV. It's the Broiler, and if you know...you know... The whole neighborhood comes to this Arlington luminary for their cheesesteaks (and I still haven't had the pizza). I heard people even drive across the bridge to eat here...which is saying something. Also HUGE bonus to the guys behind the counter for the customer service. I've seen them deal with some of the worst customers of all time, and they handle it perfectly. Great spot...Have you been to the Broiler?

This poor restaurant has an unfortunate name (if you don't get it...do NOT google it). But the food is Delicious. I hear they are known for their breakfast, but I tried their barbecue and I was not disappointed. It's Bonnie Blue in Winchester, Virginia, and the locals love it.

Tonight I was supposed to be at the Seahawks game in Seattle. But as you saw the train did not make it there. Turns out the trailblazers are at home! So I still got to go to a cool other team game. And guess what at least 15 Oregon fans came up to me and didn’t even fake talk trash they just said welcome. It was awesome. Reminded me of Kansas City, Minneapolis, and Green Bay where people were just like treating me like I was family and they don’t even know me. I love taking these sports trips. They’re so fun!!!!
