ABUSE OF AFRICAN MEN IN THE USA: A CALL FOR CHANGE The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end. In a deeply troubling case, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, an American-trained cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after an American court ordered him to pay his ex-wife $15,000 monthly following a prolonged and contentious divorce case. This tragic incident highlights the systemic issues within the legal system that disproportionately affect African men. There are growing allegations that some African women, particularly Nigerian women in the USA, are exploiting the court system to mentally and financially abuse men. Rather than prioritising the well-being of their children, these women are accused of using the alimony framework as a tool for personal financial gain. Many men have reportedly resorted to extreme measures, including xsuicide or leaving the country altogether, to escape the cycle of abuse and extortion perpetuated by these practices. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for reform in the USA’s child support and alimony systems, which appear to be heavily skewed in favour of women, enabling abuse and exploitation. Enough is enough. It is time to address these injustices and create a fairer, more balanced legal framework that protects the rights and dignity of all individuals involved.
