Who ruined "SUBU’s" life for 43 years? An Indian-origin man has been finally freed in the US after his conviction for m*rder was overturned. For about five minutes, until authorities announced he was being deported. Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam, a 64-year-old Indian-origin man who spent over four decades in a US prison for a m*rder he did not commit, was immediately detained by US immigration officials due to a decades-old deportation order. Subu, who moved to the US as a baby, was exonerated after new evidence showed investigators had withheld key FBI reports that could have cleared him. While the m*rder conviction has been quashed, his prior dr*g conviction, and prior removal order, have not. Despite the removal order dating back to the 1980s, ICE claim it is still active. His conduct in prison, however, suggests more to it – he studied for multiple degrees and mentored hundreds of his fellow inmates, suggesting a somewhat different character than ICE claim. His family and legal team are fighting to stop the deportation, arguing that India is “a completely different world” for a man who has spent nearly his entire life in the United States. #Subu #Indian
