A BLUE CYCLONE? No, it’s just school getting out in India…..NORMAL. Schooling and education is very important in India, and taken seriously. Schools are often embedded in the neighborhoods and cities, and don’t have the huge Western parking lots for parents and cars. Pick up time at schools is a massive chaos that works perfectly! Here’s a glimpse into it all…… #India #travel

Trash in India is EVERYWHERE….. ……Almost EVERYWHERE. India has a trash problem, it’s everywhere! Why? But…..there’s no trash on “that side of the fence”. Indians clean the front of their homes everyday. Sweeping and washing, it’s a ceremony, and yet just over there is …..trash. India is full of trash everywhere you look, but not on the other side of the fence. India has a long history, and up until a few years ago there simply was “no trash”. Everything came in “natural” wrappers or containers. Banana leaves or bamboo made fine containers, then for thousands of years, you simply threw the “natural container” away. It melted back into the earth, naturally. All those natural containers have been replaced by plastics, but India still throws it on the ground. One reason I believe there is so much trash. Thousands of years of “throwing” things away is not changed easily. #India #sustainable #travel

Where does the Culture live? The whole world is building the same concrete boxes to live in. India, Nigeria, China, Nepal, etc. all living in the same cheap concrete boxes? Forcing their beautiful lives into separate concrete boxes? This is a certain path to a “Cultural Death Spiral” We to remember and embrace our culture, and bring it into our homes and our lives. Or, that culture will die. #India #architecture #design

A HOME: Character and Love -Modern homes that I think work for an Indian Life. This house in Mysuru is a style and a time I believe suits a modern build. Its size is appropriate to a life, it has room outside the house to grow things and park a scooter, its proportions in line with human scale, and character of the family inside. These homes are being replaced with massive apartments that fill every single inch of the site, and as tall as rules allow. No place for Life…..to Live. #India #architecture

I still can’t get over the The Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Museum of Anthropology) in Mexico City - I went to this Museum last week…..as an architect, as a visitor to this great Country, and as a pupil of Life. This museum (even without any of the artifacts inside) is a History lesson of Mexico in “Pure Form”, and inspired me to no end. I made this video of the “Feeling” it bestowed upon me, and I played some music to it………that’s enough for now…..”The Feeling”. I am still wandering my way through my pictures and memories, and I intend to make a detailed post of this amazing piece of architecture. It deserves it. Mexico should be proud to have such a wondrous history, and the architects and architecture to hold that history in place.

Dhorpatan, Nepal……one of the last “lost places” in the Himalayas. I rode my motorcycle on the super tough multi day journey to get to this remote land, and it blew my mind off. What a place. Here’s a little video I put together …..enjoy. -all video, photos, and music is made by me.

My advice on travelling to NEPAL: “Don’t come to look at the mountains, come to have the mountains look at you.” For thousands of years people having been coming to the Himalayas……seeking, pilgrimming, questing. Hoping to “see” the great Mountains of Myth, and what you will find is that the mountains have been seeking to see you. Calling you to them, you have heard it in your soul, the great songs of dreams. Some people come as Kings, and the Himalayas will show them what being a beggar is. Some people come as beggars, and are shown the riches of a Life. This is Myth playing out in real time, no matter how modern the world of humans seems to get, the Himalayas are timeless and always watching. People have come to these mountains, and from them learned Yoga asanas, people have come and have died, people have come and found freedom……and people will always come. The great Saint who brought the Dharma to Tibet, Padmasambhava, was no exception, and was held in the valley of modern Kathmandu for a long period of time, before he was allowed to proceed on his historic journey. The Himalayas did this, preparing him for his future tasks. Nepal is a cacophony of sights and sounds, and it’s easy to get distracted. It’s even easier to be a “tourist” and miss Nepal completely. My advice: if the Himalayas called you to them, and you took action and got yourself here, then humble one self and listen with more than your eyes and ears. The Himalayas will sing to you, if you get quiet enough to hear them. Go on a long walk, without a reason to come back……as good old Henry David Thoreau said, “Saunter”. #travel #adventure #Nepal

Crossing a Street in Kathmandu - Don’t Die Here’s an early morning, not too much traffic, street crossing in Kathmandu. No street lights, no cross walks, no lines in the road……..just flow. “Rule of Hierarchy”: the Biggest thing has the right of way”. Trucks over cars, cars over motorcycles, etc etc. Humans?……are the last in line. Rule of thumb…..keep moving with the flow, don’t stop.

The New Puebla….or is it Sacramento?….or in India?…..or…. It could be ANYWHERE I travel the world, and it’s starting to ALL LOOK THE SAME. Bad architecture, cheap materials, and parking lots. Even in a place like Puebla, which has 500 years of precedent.

I planted this tree for my friend 20 years ago….Look at it NOW. My friend in Pokhara saved up enough money to buy some land 22 years ago. I helped him design the place, and when it was finished ….I planted a tree as a blessing. (which I do a lot, my whole life). Now…..that tree is big. That’s how it’s done, simple action. “A small deed is better than a great thought.”
