A Pakistani content creator offered ordinary Pakistanis a wad of cash to burn the Indian flag. Every single person refuses. You can manufacture outrage. You can monetize hatred. But sometimes ordinary people remind you that patriotism does not require dehumanising your neighbour. That is the Pakistan I recognise.

This desert in Pakistan was once a river valley. Four thousand years ago people built civilisations here that were among the most advanced on earth. Every single major Indus Valley site sits on Pakistani soil. Mohenjo-daro. Harappa. Mehrgarh. Taxila. Pakistan's birth certificate, written four thousand years before the country had a name. Great work by Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab(TDCP)

This reminds me. During the Covid years we did a shoot in Dubai with one of Pakistan's biggest stars. Suits, watches, ties, belts... every detail was covered. Except the shoes. Nobody remembered the bloody shoes. Luckily, I had a brand new pair sitting in the boot of my car. They'd been sent to me years earlier by a friend who'd moved back from the US and launched a men's shoe brand. The shoes were one size too small for me, so I'd thrown the box in the boot and forgotten about them. We tried them on. Perfect fit. Those forgotten shoes from a discontinued brand ended up on the feet of one of Pakistan's biggest stars. Here's the clip. Guess the celebrity and win a dinner on me if you're in Luxembourg, Belgium, the UK, the Middle East, or Pakistan when our paths eventually cross. Hint: if you're Pakistani, you definitely know who he is.

Seven minutes on Samaa News discussing the article that started from a laptop in Luxembourg and ended up on Pakistani television. Grateful to Absar Alam sahab for the invitation. The camera may show a composed writer but just outside the frame: two shoes I kicked off ten seconds before going live, and a coffee that I only remembered about mid-shoot and couldn't rescue before it went fully cold.

Everyone is watching the ceasefire clock. Watch Moscow instead. Araghchi visited four capitals in 72 hours: Islamabad twice, Muscat, Moscow. You do not do that if you have walked away. You do it because you are building something. Russia has offered to take custody of Iran's enriched uranium. Trump rejected it before. The dynamics have shifted. Iran's new proposal, conveyed to the White House through Pakistani mediators, offers to reopen Hormuz and end the war while deferring nuclear talks. Trump will reject it as written. But it shifts the centre of gravity. The counter-proposal is where the deal lives. Now add Putin. If Russia offers a specific uranium custody formula, both sides get an exit. Iran says we placed it with an ally. Trump says Iran's uranium has left the country. Oil is at $106. Trump's domestic clock is ticking louder than his strategic one. Iran knows this and is trading time for leverage. Pakistan's value right now is giving Trump a way out he can frame as a win. Pakistan has moved from facilitator to architect. The ceasefire framework was Pakistan's draft. Iran's written messages on nuclear red lines were transmitted through Pakistani mediators. Lavrov called Dar and "highly appreciated" the effort. The US State Department has called Pakistan the sole mediator. This is unprecedented. Watch what comes out of Moscow in the next 24 hours. The next significant move in this war may come from the one capital with a stake in the outcome that has not fired a shot. Discussed this on Decode with the excellent and thorough Zunaira Azhar, on Express 24/7 today. Full conversation below.

Two foreign tourists. Two neighbouring countries. Two experiences that couldn't be more different. When outsiders have no horse in the race, their experiences become far more interesting than our arguments. Sometimes the best thing to do is simply letting people speak for themselves.
