On the hunt for Chonkers🕵️♂️ I woke up bright and early to try and sneak a peak at the massive stellar sea lion that has stolen the hearts of San Franciscans and so many people across the country. I didn’t find him this morning but that doesnt mean you cant come down to Pier 39 to try for yourself!

In San Francisco, we are focused on delivering results for the people who live, work, and visit our amazing city. That's what I told everyone on The Pat McAfee Show, and that's what I tell San Franciscans every day. This Super Bowl week, San Francisco is showing the world that we are a city on the rise.

17 months ago, San Francisco stopped spending more than we can afford. The budget I proposed this week, reduces our long-term structural deficit by approximately $300 million dollars. When I came into office, City Hall was using one-time funds to cover a growing deficit and leaving the bill for someone else to pay. That wasn’t sustainable. And it wasn’t fair to the taxpayers and the people who depend on city services. Under my administration, we will not fall back on temporary fixes that force deeper cuts year after year. We didn’t tell departments to do more with less. We said: focus on what matters most to our recovery and deliver results.

San Francisco is ready for the FIFA World Cup! As the Bay Area hosts six FIFA World Cup matches, our city is being activated with watch parties, fan marches, and celebrations in every neighborhood. Throughout the entire tournament, more than 90 restaurants and bars across the city are hosting World Cup festivities, and venues—including Thrive City, China Basin Park, and Pride House SF—will offer free watch parties for fans. We’re building on the momentum of Super Bowl 60, which brought $425 million in economic impact to San Francisco, and continuing our focus on public safety and supporting small businesses. Whether you’re visiting from across the globe or celebrating in your favorite neighborhood soccer bar, we’re thrilled to show off the very best of San Francisco. Fans can go to for everything you need to know about the tournament, including transportation, events, and a new WhatsApp alert service. You’ll find big watch parties and local bars throughout our neighborhoods on the Shop Dine SF World Cup guide at Let’s go!

We are reimagining Embarcadero Plaza, turning it into a true front door to downtown and a destination in its own right. This is part of our vision for a downtown where people live, work, play, and learn—with space for events, music, families, dogs, art, and more. The new Embarcadero Plaza and Sue Bierman Park will help us build on our momentum downtown, which powers the recovery for our entire city. Help us shape a space that reflects the best of San Francisco for generations to come. Leave a comment! ⬇️

Before I took office, San Francisco was handing out smoking supplies to anyone who asked. We changed that policy to ensure safer smoking supplies are always paired with counseling or treatment. Now, six months later, city-funded partners have made around 1,000 treatment connections—and October recorded the lowest overdose deaths since we started tracking in 2020. There’s still a long way to go, but we will stay relentless in pursuing common-sense solutions that bring both accountability and compassion.

San Francisco is seeing record-low numbers of tents and large vehicles on our streets—and we’re continuing to make progress helping people get off the streets and into stability. We’re now at the lowest level of unsheltered homelessness in 15 years and we have opened the RESET Center, a new tool that allows us to enforce the law while giving people struggling with addiction an alternative to jail and a path to treatment. After one month, the RESET Center has seen more than 500 admissions, with nearly one-third accepting care and treatment. It’s also helping officers get back on the street in under 20 minutes instead of spending hours on the jail booking process. This progress is the result of relentless work by outreach teams, law enforcement officers, and healthcare workers who are helping connect people to services while keeping public spaces safe and clean. We still have more work to do. As we continue reducing tents and large vehicles on our streets, we’ll keep investing in solutions that help people in crisis get the support they need—and make clear that open-air drug use and dealing have no place in San Francisco

Last summer’s concerts in Golden Gate Park gave our city a huge economic boost. A new report found that they brought $193.1 million in economic impact to San Francisco, and $110.4 million in wages. It also created 1,000 jobs. These events–Dead & Company, Outside Lands, and a Zach Bryan concert–not only brought amazing entertainment to our city but a lasting impact for our communities. Over three weekends, they brought visitors into our small businesses, patrons into restaurants, and life into our parks and neighborhoods. The arts are driving our city’s comeback, and we’re looking forward to hosting more world-class events like these this summer.

The governor just signed SB 79, a new law from Sacramento that allows taller buildings within half a mile of our city’s many transit stops. Some San Franciscans are understandably concerned about the impact that this this new state law could have on our neighborhoods and our local control. That’s why my office worked to secure changes to the final bill. These amendments ensure that the neighborhoods in the Family Zoning Plan will not be impacted by this new state law. If the Board of Supervisors passes the Family Zoning Plan, those neighborhoods are exempt from SB 79. I look forward to working with the Board of Supervisors to pass Family Zoning, our plan to make sure the next generation of San Franciscans can afford to raise their kids here, while protecting what makes our city one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

San Francisco needs a reset. Our city charter is one of the longest in the country. It is bloated. It is broken. And it only works for the people who know how to manipulate it—not everyday San Franciscans. Today, I’m proposing reforms to clean up our city charter and make the government, and me, more accountable to you. Here is the breakdown. First: we are going to fix the city’s broken contracting system to make sure that your tax dollars are being spent efficiently and transparently. By bringing contracting under one entity, the City Administrator, we can set consistent citywide standards that will cut red tape, reduce delays, and save taxpayer dollars. Second: we are going to make our ballots shorter and simpler. That long voter packet that you received in 2024 had 15 ballot measures on it. In the same election, Oakland had 3. San Jose had 1. San Francisco makes it so easy to put things on the ballot that our elected officials don’t have to do their jobs. The result? San Franciscans have to fill out lengthy, confusing ballots, including contradictory measures and sometimes poorly written laws. This will ensure that ballot measures reflect real citywide priorities—and that elected officials focus on the job voters sent them here to do: delivering results for the people of San Francisco. Third: accountability. San Franciscans expect our city to deliver world-class services. To do that, we need to be able to hold those in leadership accountable. But right now, our charter rewards bureaucracy and scatters responsibility—protecting those in power, even if they have demonstrated serious ethical lapses. These reforms would change that to ensure that when San Franciscans elect a mayor, they know who is responsible for delivering results. San Franciscans elect people to run their government, and those leaders should be accountable for whether it works. If it doesn’t, you should know exactly who to hold responsible—that’s the point of elections. This package of reforms is about results. It’s about accountability. It’s about making City Hall work for San Francisco.

If you’re a landlord in San Francisco, I have a message for you. The city is currently looking for stable housing for families and individuals living in RVs. We are offering real benefits to property owners who want to offer their units: guaranteed rent, a streamlined placement process, and dedicated support for tenants. By joining this program, you can help change lives and keep your unit filled.

Muni lines and traffic signals are impacted by the power outage. If you don’t need to travel tonight, please stay off the roads and stay inside. We will be expanding officer presence at intersections and corridors to ensure the safety of those still on the road. We remain in close contact with PG&E as they restore power and will keep everybody posted as work continues.

The RESET Center has been open just over 24 hours, and already dozens of people using drugs in public have been brought off the streets. This is a new model that we are using in San Francisco to bring people on the streets into a health focused facility where they can have a chance to be connected to treatment. This center is making it easier for officers to get back on the beat while giving people a real opportunity for treatment. We’re also hearing reports that staff have connected people with case managers who had been trying to reach them. This is an important new tool to help keep our streets safe and clean.

Today, I am excited to announce our Family Opportunity Agenda. We are going to be relentless in our drive to make our city more affordable for families in San Francisco. Starting this month, a family of four making less than $230,000 a year will qualify for free child care at hundreds of high quality providers across the city. And by this fall, those earning up to $310,000 a year will receive a 50% subsidy. Our plan also expands opportunities for our students. In partnership with SFUSD, we’re launching a new pilot that allows high school students to earn associate degrees or industry certifications at City College—with a guaranteed transfer to SF State University. This will help them become nurses, police officers, Pre-K teachers, auto technicians, chefs, and more. We’re committed to making San Francisco a place where families can stay, grow, and build their future. This is just the beginning. Let’s go, San Francisco.

Yes, you can park in your own driveway. No, your car cannot block the sidewalk. Through PermitSF, we passed legislation to get rid of outdated laws that prohibited San Francisco residents from parking cars in their own driveways. Just follow these guidelines: ✅ You can park in the driveway in front of your house. ✅ No part of your car can overhang onto the sidewalk. ✅ You may park parallel to the curb in front of your own driveway, if your vehicle is registered to that address and the building has two or fewer units. When in doubt, visit to review parking rules. With PermitSF, we’re making life easier for residents, small businesses, and all San Franciscans through common-sense changes.

San Francisco just recorded the lowest number of overdose deaths since we began tracking in 2020. One death is too many, but the progress we continue to make gives us hope. Since I took office, we have reformed our street outreach teams, invested in new treatment and recovery solutions including long acting medication, and stood up more than 600 shelter and treatment beds to get people the help they need. So far this year, overdose deaths are down 30% compared to last year, but the work is far from over, and we will continue to be relentless.

We’re doing things differently in San Francisco when it comes to homelessness. And we’re seeing results. - Nearly 1,000 fewer people are sleeping on our streets compared to 2024—a major sign that our strategy is working. - Unsheltered homelessness in San Francisco is now at its lowest level in 15 years. - The number of people in tents is down 85%. These numbers come from the 2026 Point in Time Count. The takeaway is clear: More people are coming inside to get shelter and treatment, and we are moving in the right direction.

Algebra is returning to 8th grade public school classrooms in San Francisco—a major step forward for our students and our families. Since day one, we’ve pushed SFUSD to focus on getting back to the basics. For San Francisco to be a world-class city, we need a world-class public education system. By expanding access to Algebra, we are preparing every student for success in high school and beyond. Thank you to School Board President Phil Kim, SFUSD, and our educators for taking this critical step in the right direction for San Francisco and our future.
