Three wanted suspects have been killed in a gunfight with KZN police in Kranskop during the early hours of this morning. According to the SAPS: "Police acted on intelligence which uncovered the whereabout of the suspects and when they approached a residence at Mambulu area, a shootout ensued between police and an unknown number of suspects. Three suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the shootout and they were found in possession of firearms." The men are linked to this brazen cash van robbery in Kranskop in April this year, where one robber was killed in the explosion. During the incident, the gunmen also fired shots at the local police station. More armed suspects - who were able to escape arrest this morning - are still being sought. Police are asking the public to offer any leads they may have. eNCA

A suspect driving a stolen truck went on the rampage this afternoon, apparently after a disagreement with his employer. The Malawian man – a truck driver – rammed into several cars and a pedestrian during his wild ride. Police officers, including Umlazi K9 members, gave chase but the trucker also smashed into another police car. According to the SAPS, members fired at the vehicle to neutralise the threat, and the suspect was subsequently struck and wounded. The heavy vehicle eventually came to rest on Underwood Road in Pinetown. AlsParamedics says, “Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS had closed off the entire roadway. Paramedics found multiple vehicles damaged some with bullet holes and others after the crash. The scene was over a short distance and Paramedics assessed the scene. A truck that was allegedly driven by a suspect had collided head on into a SAPS vehicle whilst being chased by other SAPS members. The truck was found badly damaged as a result of the crash as well as bullet holes. The driver had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to hospital under police guard. A vehicle with a family on their way home were also involved in the crash and five occupants had sustained minor to moderate injuries and were treated on scene by ALS Paramedics before being transported to a nearby Hospital for the further care that they required.” WARNING: SUPPLIED VIDEO MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME eNCA

A steering committee - consisting of all agencies involved - has been formed to manage what is taking place. The number outside the community hall is estimated at well over six thousand, growing steadily since last week. One of the teenagers in this video has been killed in a shootout with police in Inanda during the early hours of the morning. Members of the SAPS Provincial Tracing Team were in the area conducting firearm-related operations. They approached the suspect’s house in Mzomusha but were allegedly shot at while demanding he open the door. The 19-year-old suspect died in the shootout. An unlicensed 9mm pistol was recovered.

He has now categorically stated that the “smear campaign” against him originates within the organisation. But Mkhwanazi insists he and his team are not backing down, and their work will soon reveal the rogue elements hiding out at the SAPS HQ. In an interview with eNCA, the veteran policeman says this isn’t the first time he’s been targeted for exposing criminals within the SAPS. Mkhwanazi has given an assurance that the level of policing in KZN won’t be affected by this. More on #DStv403.

The provincial commissioner says they have information that suggests he rallied people to open cases against fellow police officers after they were involved in a shootout that left four suspected extortionists dead near Duffs Road.
