ABC-TV 1974: A&M 28, Texas Tech 7. Kyle Field’s first-ever televised win, its first televised SWC win, first televised ranked-vs-ranked win, and its first televised win by an integrated Aggie football program. To date, 1974 changed the trajectory of Aggie Football, ending decades of back-to-back losing seasons — the last occurring in ‘72 and ‘73. Father of the Wishbone Emory Bellard called one pass per quarter and this one to Carl Roaches hit in the 4th. Sideline reporter Jim Lampley was in his first year on the job, on his way to becoming a renowned broadcaster. He still remembers the backfield that he says was a “microcosm of Texas-style football” — with Bubba (Bean), Bucky (Sams), and Skip (Walker).
